Guest guest
I want to thank everyone who was kind enough to respond to my questions regarding Xolair and my upcoming Xolair therapy. I hesitate to take this medication because I've had such horrendeous reactions to many medications (and foods) in the past. The first batch of skin tests I underwent in my allergist's office caused such an allergic and asthmatic response that my doctor sent me to the ER for treatment, as she feared I would have to be admitted to the hospital at that time. That ended the skin tests. I am allergic to sulfa drugs (sulfites, sulfur, etc.). When I developed hypertension last year I was prescribed a medication that contained one sulfur molecule, so it wasn't listed in the ingredients........but my body knew it was there, and once again I was rushed to the ER for treatment. I was also put on Lipitor for high cholesterol (this getting old is the pits!), but after taking the medication for several months, my muscles became weak and very painful, and it took months for the weakness to subside. In the past I have had severe allergic reactions to penicillin, erythromycin, sulfa drugs, aspirin and sodium penethol, and I cannot eat shellfish for the same reason. I do not feel that my asthma is well controlled by the medications I am currently taking and I'm so tired of the side effects caused by prednisone (added to menopause, my husband swears its a lethal combination!), so my allergist felt it was time to try the Xolair. She did warn me, however, about possible complications (i.e., cancer, muscle weakness, hives, difficulty breathing, flu symptoms, etc.), so with my previous track record, I hope you can understand my fears and why I hesitate to give it a try. I'll write again after I undergo the first injection on Tuesday morning; I appreciate how kind and welcoming everyone in the group has been to me. Guest guest
Dear Marge, I will be thinking about you in a positive way on Tuesday.I do so hope that Xolair will be the answer to your prayers.I am also allergic to sulfa,as well as citrus, dairy and some meds.like Benicar .I also get hives if I ingest something unlisted that I am allergic to.I was allergic to eggs in my youth, but not so much anymore.I have 3 Hepa Filters going in my home. They really help with nights. I am not approved for Xolair yet,... but I hope to be soon. Anastasia
