I felt lousy for 24 hours after receiving my first Xolair injections on June

29th, then, nothing...........the shots have made no difference at all with my

body's response to offending allergens...........how many months do I need to

be on Xolair before I will notice a difference?

Marge,

There are a few people who've seen improvement within the first

couple of weeks, but most people I've " talked " to have needed 2-4

months to see improvement. I had measurable improvement at just

over 2 months. Doug, on the other hand, needed the full six

months. It's my understanding that the pharmacy reps and the

manufacturers say it takes 3-6 months to begin to take effect.

Marge, let us know when it would be a good time for you to chat.

Doug, I don't seem to be able to live without an oral anthistamine,

but other than that I've given up using anything on a daily basis

AND I don't take my allergy shots any more. I'm afraid I don't know

where my rescue inhaler is, but I know where the neb is.

Marge,

Xolair is not a " take it and instantly feel better " medication. For

most of us, it takes a few months. It is different for everyone. Some

get relief almost instantly while others up to a year. It took 6 for

me.

My advice (as someone who has been there) is for you to give it at

least 6 months if this is what your doctor reccommends. I tried to

stop taking it after 3 months but my doctor insisted that I keep

going. I am glad I listened to her.

Addy,

My allergy shots help me tremendously! When I went off of them year

before last, I got really bad. I would ask your doctor if he/she

might consider putting you on them again. I NEVER get the sniffles

or a stuffed up nose anymore. I credit this to my shots and the

xolair.

Hi Doug,

I am the same. Usually by the 11th day I feel the same.

What is the strength of Xolair you are taking? I am on 450mg and have

been since day 1.

it took about 4-5 months for me to start seeing noticable

improvement. i'm down from 10 puffs of flovent 220 a day to 4

(advair 500) and have been mountain biking almost every weekend,

something i hvaen't been able to do in so long. i think this past

week i spent too much time in the woods biking (my husband and i

were both on vacation) b/c despite xolair, i'm feeling tighter and

my eczema is flaring a bit. oh well. everything has a price...and i

had fun biking, so it was worth it!

i find the same thing, by day 11 or so, i'm feeling the xolair wear

off. i mentioned it to my dr,and she called xolair, and they said

that shouldn't happen. i told her regaedless, it did. i have no idea

what she is going to do. right now, i'm on 375 (three shots every

two weeks) and maybe doing it at home soon!

I guess in some ways I am one of the lucky - I saw almost immediate

relief when I got my first Xolair shot. Strangely, now I have some

months where I feel really great, and others where I don't feel as

good. I don't think it has anything to do with the way I handle the

medication or prepare the shots (I give them myself). I keep track

of the weather and my symptoms in a diary. June was very damp, and

right now I am struggling a bit, but nothing like before.

I still give myself allergy shots, and my Dr. was adamant that I not

quit taking them. Xolair has done almost nothing for my sinuses,

and I still use Nasacort and Astelin but don't get much relief.

BTW - I did read that a cheap alternative to Astelin and other

prescription antihistamine sprays is to simply dissolve a Benadryl

in saline.

I also don't seem to be able to quit taking the Advair, but as

indicated in an earlier post, I consider this to be a small price to

pay. Once in awhile I use a shot of albuterol, but never use the

neb anymore. Mostly I only have to do this when I have been working

in the yard.

We went to a 'barn party' on Saturday - yeah, hay, horses, the

works - and had NO symptoms whatsoever.

Sorry I've been absent from the group. I have a VERY pregnant wife

who is due any time. Also right in the middle of our year-end

financial audit. I've given up on sleep...

Ash,

I am taking 150 mg for a total of 300 mg in each arm every other

friday. Sometimes, I wish my doctor would up my dose but that is his

call and I respect it. I am doing pretty good on 300 mg but am

anxious to be off all my asthma meds too soon I guess LOL!

Hi, I get three shots every two weeks - 450mg total.

I used to see an increase in allergic symptoms around the 11th day.

Now I don't see the increase until the 13th day, and the increase is

less noticeable than it was.

My doc thinks that I may still be generating new IgE, which would

account for the increase in symptoms. That means I may have to take

Xolair indefinitely. That is fine with me.

Gotta go run errands before Coach K's press conference at 5pm

eastern. Oh, yeah. Need I mention I'm a huge Duke fan??!!!
