Guest guest
Hi all, Wolfe here. It has been a while since I have posted, so I wanted to give an update. I had my 5th Xolair shot last week. I am doing very well right now indeed. I had a miserable virus 3 weeks ago with 4 days of unrelenting fever and 1 day of vomiting and for the first time since being diagnosed with asthma in 2001, I actually weathered a virus without getting any bronchitis! I did not need any antibiotics or oral steroids. I took aspirin for 3 days and Aleve for 2 more days for the muscle soreness/aches and pains and I used the nebulizer for a week. The nebulizer use means I now have to take Fosomax for 1 month to prevent bone loss. (I already have steroid related osteopenia in my spine.) I am just now feeling human again 3 weeks later after this virus, but I TRULY believe that the Xolair helped my body mostly heal itself. I mean I only had to neb twice a day and of course my usual pile of maintenance meds. It's practically a miracle. I pretty much had given up on being able to ever weather a nasty virus or cold again without getting bronchitis too. Lo and behold, no bronchitis this time and my peak flo meters only dropped 10 measly points during the worst of it. Still in the green zone at all times! In April after my 6th shot, I am due back to see the doc to discuss reducing my medication. Can you believe it??? Also, for those of you who recall that my boyfriend is an officer in the Army Reserves, well he has been gone(deployed) for 2 years and has been extended for another 6 months. I got an email last week and he is on a secret mission somewhere in the world but says he is somewhere safe. I am hoping he will get to come back home to his civilian life/job here at home next fall (october.) I am praying that I will be all fixed up and healthier by next fall due to Xolair. I want to say again from the bottom of my heart how very grateful I am for this support grooup. I read it every week even when I do not post. Asthma can be depressing and many of us hide to truth of it from the public eye in order to shield ourselves from the negative judgements of others or bad consequences at work. This is a great place to just be able to " get real " about it all. For that I am sooo grateful. May God bless you all and keep you in his care this week. Hugs, Wolfe
Guest guest
- thanks for sharing with us how well you are doing on Xolair. Sorry you had such a yucky virus but I'm glad you treated yourself aggressively and avoided antibiotics and steroids! I also have osteopenia in my spine already. I'm late for going back for a second Dexascan - that's bad I know. I hope your boyfriend continues to stay safe...I am sure he will be glad to return to a happier and healthier !
