Guest guest
hi tina. welcome to xolair!!! its one of the best things that's happened to my health in a loooooooong time! for me, it took 8-12 months to get the full effects of xolair, but i started seeing some improvement after 6. i've heard of people who feel an improvement after their first or second shot. 300 mg every two weeks is pretty much a standard dose. the doses are calculated according to your IgE and weight. if you go to www.xolair.com and click on the healthcare professionals link, you can see the dosing chart, as well as some other info too. i was the first xolair patient at my drs office when i started the shots in january 2004. now i'm one of 3. i didn't get any side effects, except better breathing and increased control over my allergies!! =o) on occassion, i do bruise at the injection site, but i think thats more of an effect from my inhaled steroids. good luck with the xolair! heather misssdallas <misssdallas@...> wrote: i just getting ready to start xolair. from reading all the posts i am starting to feel better. i have had severe asthma for a while and getting tired of working so hard to breathe. which makes this worse is that i am a respiratory therapist and tend to treat myself at home, mainly because im tired of spending time in the hospital. i have read just about every article on this drug and the side effects. and to be honest i am really scared but also tired of being on all this medication. how long does it take to feel better? after the first injection? i will be the first one in my pulmonologist's office and not to many people in this area know about it. would someone please give me a little insight? also is it usually the standard dose of 300mg every 2 weeks pretty standard? the good thing is that i was able to get the xolair covered at 100% through xolair itself. pretty expensive drug. thanks again tina
Guest guest
Hi, Tina, Welcome to the group! I LOVE XOLAIR. It took about 3 months to work on me. It has taken some folks just a few days to see improvement; others several months. I get 350mg every 2 weeks. 300 every two weeks is a fairly common dose. I rarely need any asthma meds any more at all. No more repeated infections, allergy headaches, etc. Take care, and welcome, Addy (Moderator) > i just getting ready to start xolair. from reading all the posts i am > starting to feel better. i have had severe asthma for a while and > getting tired of working so hard to breathe. which makes this worse is > that i am a respiratory therapist and tend to treat myself at home, > mainly because im tired of spending time in the hospital. i have read > just about every article on this drug and the side effects. and to be > honest i am really scared but also tired of being on all this > medication. how long does it take to feel better? after the first > injection? i will be the first one in my pulmonologist's office and > not to many people in this area know about it. would someone please > give me a little insight? also is it usually the standard dose of > 300mg every 2 weeks pretty standard? > the good thing is that i was able to get the xolair covered at 100% > through xolair itself. pretty expensive drug. > thanks again > tina
Guest guest
Welcome, This is a wonderful site. I have been getting injections for about 3 months, 300mg every two weeks and pay $45 dollar a month co-pay. After two months my wife noticed my breathing was not as labored as it was before I noticed a change for the better. I have improved and have just cut my prednizone in half, but am looking forward to the 6 month mark. I am now giving myself shots at home. So far the effects, for me, wear off about Saturday prior to my next Tuesday shot. I have had no side effects except some short lived lightweight headaches after the shots which have pretty much gone away. This site has been a life saver for me, I was totally oblivious to xolair and asthma until I ended up in the ER with severe asthma. Since then the only relief I have had is the xolair. Apparently the type of asthma I have kicks up after you are 45 and have had a lung infection, now it is a daily fight. I keep camping on this site and am grateful to the people willing to help. Hang in there, things will get better. Guest guest
Tina, I've been on Xolair now for about 5 months. It's been a godsend as my asthma and allergies have been significantly reduced. You may feel something the first day/week after the initial shot. Relief after that is very gradual. After about 3 months you should feel significant relief. At 5 months I feel much better. Give it some time and don't give up. Guest guest
This was all very scary to me. To add insult to injury, I don't think I trust anybody, let alone Drs. and " treatments " . Now here I am extolling the virtues of xolair, my Dr, this group, and I'm breathing a lot better, go figure. This site has a " poll " section that answers a lot of FAQ. My wife was excited by xolair, I was " wait and see " . I am a lot better, it's still scary for me, but it is better to breath! (breathing is not an option). Give it time, hang in there, and keep us posted.
