Guest guest
thats the other thing -- its difficult (but not impossible) to inject yourself in the arm, especially when you have to use your non- dominant hand. i'm trying to move towards doing the shots at home, and stomach injections would be so much easier. (for no other reason than i hate taking up their time at the office - i'm less than a mile away from my dr, so going isn't a problem). i might just have to call xolair or curascript. thanks heather > Since it is a shot that goes into the fatty tissue and not the blood stream, its ok, but I can't tell you where to find it in writing. My doctor used my stomach to teach me to do the shots myself...since I can hardly give myself a shot in the backof the arm! Worked great and also it didn't even hurt! No muss no fuss. Two years ago, it seems that most allergists stopped that practice. Now they make me get them in the office and then wait for 20 minutes like I did when I was a kid. Xolair at home???? NO WAY!!! My doctor and his nurse look at me in SHOCK when I tell them that some are allowed to give them to themselves. Not only do I have to get my shots in the office, but they make me wait an hour before I can leave. I guess that my doctor is very concerned about reactions. If I were in his shoes, I would rather my patient be in my office if something should go wrong. I used to have to drive 2 1/2 hours each way to get my shots. Now, I just drive across town on the interstate Doug
Guest guest
I give myself my own Xolair shots. I never have trouble with bruising. I give myself two shots in the stomach, one on each side, and one in the leg. No problems to date. Much less painful to use that fatty tummy tissue. More helpful now that I've lost about 25 pounds (no pred, yeah) and don't have so much fatty tissue in other areas. Addy PS went to the doc this week; she thinks it is unlikely that Xolair is causing the other symptoms and took about 4 vials of my blood to run tests with. I'll let you know if we find out anything. Guest guest
thanks for all the info. i'm not sure i'll ever get to move " home " with the shots. that was the original plan, and we were planning on changing it to " home " when my insurance changed and the new ins. covered xolair - but its my understanding that its being approved for the office. oh well. its not a bother at all, and oddly, i enjoy going. its like an extended (dysfunctional) family. i've been with the same dr and nurses since i was 12 -- 17 years and counting! as for the waiting, they make me wait about a half hour after the shots and every now and again ask me what would i do if i had a problem. i carry 2 epi-pens everywhere i go, and the trauma center is less than ten minutes away...plus my mom is an EMT so she can round up an ambulance crew in a moments notice (and has before) should i need it. i have been bruising so much, and so easily. i'm not sure from what. last summer my PCP did a full work up, and found absolutely nothing. and abby - the lesser amount of steroids (for me is was 2200 ,cg a day of flovent, rather than oral pred) has helped me lose weight too (i'm down to 125 lbs -- YEAH!!!). my dr is shocked, along with the nurses. i'm finding the shots to be more uncomfortable in my arms than they were in january. i'll hope for the stomach shot, and maybe try to get that as a newer location if i like it more. thanks too for the info. thanks heather > I give myself my own Xolair shots.
