Guest guest
Jeff, I don't know about any studies for Xolair in pill form, but I do know that it's currently being tested for food allergies. I'd imagine that seasonal allergies will also be tested, although it would be a big insurance company challenge unless they can find a way to bring the price way down (which is probably why you mentioned pill form). Meryl Does anyone know if the science behind Xolair will ever be in pill form to help the millions of us who don't have asthma, but do have terrible allergies? Thanks. Guest guest
Given my understanding of the pharmacodynamics of the med, I would be very surprised if they could find a way for xolair to be absorbed in a pill format...xolair is made with recombinant DNA technology and derived at one point in time from chinese hampster. (I joked with my pulmo that one side effect would be that I grew a tail!) The protein structure would likely be destroyed by stomach acid and the digestive process. However I know that xolair has been tested for pernennial allergy without asthma and is in clinical trials for peanut allergy. ps the website has lots of info about it www.xolair.com __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Xolair is a protein, so in pill form it would get 'chewed up' in the stomach and inactivated. Maybe they'll find a way to keep it from degrading in the hydrochloric acid in our stomachs. That would be great! __________________________________________________

Xolair in its current form has been in clinical trials for allergic rhinitis and peanut allergy. Xolair has improved my allergic rhinitis and skin allergy symptoms IMMENSELY. I have severe allergic rhinitis with inflammation and recurring sinus infections and Xolair has pretty much put a stop to it. I know that they continue to research how they could offer Xolair in an easier form, but so far I have only heard of progress in putting it in premade vials and/or an epi-pen type of mechanism. There are some doctors out there talking about 1/2 dosages trial (ie. half a vial) to those people who have severe allergies without ashthma. This would be off label at the moment. You would still need to get injected but the cost would be about $250 a month, which would bring it more in line with the cost of the current medications and may make it easier for insurance companies to cover it. You can talk to your doctor about this. Look at Dr. Bob Lanier's web site. Homer
Guest guest
Dear : I don't know about pill form but,Xolair is helping me with my other allergies (sinus) I am much better since being on Xolair. I take four medicines for sinus allergies alone. All my doctors say the improvement is due to the Xolair, except my otolaringologist (I think that's how it's spelt) Kathy. <carrie72583@...> wrote: Given my understanding of the pharmacodynamics of the med, I would be very surprised if they could find a way for xolair to be absorbed in a pill format...xolair is made with recombinant DNA technology and derived at one point in time from chinese hampster. Probably never in pill form...because of the fact that Xolair is essentially a synthetic antibody (a protein molecule), if it were taken in a pill form these antibody molecules would be chewed up by the same digestive processes in your stomach which cause any other dietary proteins to be digested. In short--it's pretty much injections or nothing at all...you might check to see if the FDA is considering approving Xolair for allergy sufferers anytime soon...the long term goal (5-10 years out) would be to block certain cytokine pathways (which happens before IgE is produced)...lookup " small molecular weight cytokine inhibitors " I think there might be some promising developments in this field Nick
