Guest guest
, I have a similar problem, made worse by a newborn in the house. Can't sleep even when I want to. I did some research on over the counter sleeping pills. They are the same thing as Benadryl. Exacly the same thing. Diphenhydramine HCl. Tylenol PM, Benadryl, and other sleeping pills, all the same, and the same dosages, too. They help me when I can't sleep. My problem is I usually don't take them early enough to do a lot of good, and can leave me feeling groggy the next day. Bottom line, though, I figure that since OTC meds are for allergies, they can't really be bad for asthma. If you do try them, go for the cheapest thing (my wife found WalMart brand benadryl to be the cheapest). On another note - I read that a good substitute for antihistamine nasal sprays is to dissolve a benadryl in salt water (saline nasal spray) and use that. Seems to be as effective as the prescription meds for many people and costs a LOT less. Guest guest
, Asthmatics are notoriously poor sleepers generally. I read a study recently of " well-controlled " asthmatics and their sleep patterns...there was no real improvement in sleep patterns in well- controlled asthmatics (who did not have a diagnosed sleeping problem) from when their asthma was not controlled. Depressing, huh? My sleep hasn't really improved on Xolair. I still wake up as often, albeit I don't wake up choking on congestion. Have you considered whether or not stress plays a factor in your sleep issues? Just wondering. Addy
Guest guest
- Re-learned a lesson I already knew but didn't pay attention to - don't eat chocolate before bed! Riley (our baby) went to sleep at 9:00 last night, but yours truly didn't get to sleep until about 11:30. Also partly due to stress at work, I think, but a missed opportunity regardless. I saw this one coming and took a couple of benadryl, but it didn't work. Seriously, stress and diet are major factors in my ability to sleep. Guest guest
no chocolate - no coffee - no tea!!! too bad you didn't sleep, greg - me neither - i was in bed about 11:15, asleep before midnight (a small miracle) and i was up about 3:30 or so. i'm seriously dragging my wagon, as they say. all day at work, i kept hearing " are you okay " ? being tired is just the pits. i'm also starting in with a minor fever - which is just odd for me. i'm already on cipro for ten of the 14 prescribed days for a sinus infection, but today the dripping just got really nasty, and i've felt sick to my stomach all day. hoping it not a resurgance of the infection <shrug> i guess thats the way it goes sometimes. has anyone ever just woken up and have their heart racing? if i fall asleep for a nap (on the couch or in bed - and yes i know naps are bad, but at a point, you take what sleep you can get!) i will often wake up with my heart racing much faster than i could ever count. it takes a little more than a half hour for it to calm down to normal - hmmmm - i had a cardio work up two years ago, and everything came out okay. hmmmmmmmm ~heather > > - > > Re-learned a lesson I already knew but didn't pay attention to - > don't eat chocolate before bed! > > Riley (our baby) went to sleep at 9:00 last night, but yours truly > didn't get to sleep until about 11:30.
