Hello and thank you all for the encouraging responses!

My allergist says I am a pretty good candidate for Xolair and from

reading many of the messages in the group, I think I may benefit from

it too. I am already dreaming of going back to work, volunteering at

the local schools and shelters, going to a Cleveland Brown's football

game (!!) and just being able to walk around the block enjoying

nature once again!

Regarding the birth of my child almost six years ago, it

was " miraculous " according to my primary care physician at the time.

I felt like my allergies and asthma were improving throughout the

whole pregnancy and I was able to give up the daily antihistamines

and daily oral steroids (tapered, of course!) completely. This, is

my experience and may differ from person to person. The feeling of

wellness ended about 6 months after giving birth and then my

allergies and asthma came back with a vengeance in spring of '99.

Then, I resumed allergy shots and thought I was improving until last

year. Allergy shots are definitely helpful, but they are not

providing full relief. Hope Xolair will be the magic ingredient to

my pharmaceutical " cocktail " .

(One side comment, I developed gestational diabetes while carrying

the child. It was so bad, I had to inject myself with insulin. One

problem went away temporarily, only to be replaced with another

problem! Like my husband says, one really needs a good sense of humor

to live w/me!)

In light of my own health history, I am very vigilant with my

daughter's health. She had a mild eczema near her elbows when she

was 11 months and lasted about 4 months afterwards. Her pediatrician

said to cut out all dairy and she only drank soy milk as her dairy

replacement. When I was an infant, according to my mother, I was

always sniffling and with some rash. Hope history won't repeat

itself. I have had lifelong allergies but it really worsened before

graduating from college. Of course, everyone's experience is

different, even among siblings.

Good luck to all -

G.M.
