Guest guest
I must admit that while I felt at first the Xolair injection I received on June 28th (my first) wasn't of any benefit, I have just noticed that I haven't had to use prednisone in the past two weeks at all, and our weather here in PA has been cool, damp and rainy, which generally doesn't agree with me. I had a tooth with a root canal previously done break on me two weeks ago, and this past Monday had to undergo a root canal on the next tooth to it, as it also had a crack in it and had abscessed. I can't help but wonder if my constant usage of prednisone throughout the years has done something to my teeth, as at 49 years of age, I shouldn't have had so many root canals (5 in total) done already. Any thoughts? Marge

I hope others on this list tell us if they have had an excess number of tooth problems that might be from the use of Pred. I have not had any changes in my teeth for years,.. so I donot think the Pred. affects my teeth at all.I'm a tad over 49. Guest guest
Since prednisone can cause brittle bones, I would not be surprised if it could cause tooth problems as well, except that I don't think that your teeth regenerate the same way that your bones do. Having said that, I got my first crown this year at age 41. However, it was in a tooth that had a large filling in it, and my dentist told me that it was no surprise, especially the way my teeth mesh. I haven't had a cavity in over 20 years. My gut feeling is that pred does not affect your teeth. Greg > I hope it isn't true about pred. and tooth problems. Guest guest
i'm guessing my tooth issues are from the use of pred and high doses of inhaled steroids...but i've had two root canals, and this past winter (when i was on the highest dose of inhaled steroids and spent ten days at 60 mg pred before a three month taper) three teeth cracked...i'm guessing it was the steroids, but who knows. its not like each crack and chip holds a sign " i cracked from pred! " it just seems odd to have a tooth crack like it did while eating yogurt! if it can make your bones brittle, wouldn't it make sense that it would do the same to teeth? heather > I hope it isn't true about pred. and tooth problems.
