hi carrie

my pharmacy sends the one inch needs along with the xolair for me as well. we

generally replace them with 5/8 inch needles instead. the RN called the pharmacy

once and asked for smaller needles, which they sent for a while, and now i'm

back to getting the long ones. i guess she needs to call them again and request

smaller ones.

hope you're doing well!!!

Hi Pat,

I thought I would pick on your clinical expertise for

a bit. My Canadian-made injection kits have 1 inch sub

cue needles. My Xolair nurse and I find them a bit

long and have been substituting with the shorter ones

you described. Is that ok???

They should be 25G 5/8 " . Length is important to get the Xolair under the skin

in the subcutaneous tissue (fatty tissue) not into a muscle. Intra-muscular

shots are 1 to 1 1/2 " needles depending on the size of the person.

Thanks !!!

Between Novartis, the third party injection company

(aptly named Xhale) and my pharmacy, getting them to

change the needle size will be like moving a boulder

up a hill (what is that parable about the guy pushing

a boulder that keeps falling on top of him?).

Although, when I wanted to change pharmacies, it only

took them a month...
