Guest guest
, I'm sorry to hear that Xolair was a problem for you. Was your reaction anaphylactic in nature? Was it apparent from the first injection that it was a problem? I'm asking because I'm wondering if anaphylactic reactions ever occur later in the course of treatment. All best, Meryl I am the one that had the reactions. My doctor as well as the Novartis rep told me that severe reactions occur in very rare. THey also said that maybe my body just couldnt handle the drugs. I know you addressed this to Pat but I thought you would like a little more input from me...hope I didnt overstep. *Hugs* --- <carrie72583@...> wrote: > Hi everyone, > > Pat perhaps you can comment. Guest guest
Hi , I didn't know you posted here! Hi! I thought maybe Pat could shed some light on the issue. I mean what was happening on a physiological level so that you reacted that way? She may have some clarification or hypothesis to offer. ps I am glad that you recovered from those reactions!!! __________________________________________________________ Find your next car at http://autos..ca
Guest guest
Meryl Yes it was. My throat closed and was really bad. It wasnt apparent from the first shot. I had symptoms but nothing as bad as that in the first few monthes. I didnt make it to 6 monthes on the Xolair. I did 5 monthes and my dr pulled me off. I think that answers all your questions...if you have others or I missed something let me know and I'll answer it. *Hugs* --- msbehavior@... wrote: > , > > I'm sorry to hear that Xolair was a problem for > you. Guest guest
Hi , I have read all of the postings. In the research 3 people had " bad " reactions after their shots. 1 was anaphylactic in nature, not a true anaphylaxis, was treated with epi pen & nebulizer & was fine. This was after the 3rd month of shots. Nothing is printed to say if the person decided to buy a cat because she felt better & was off her other meds too, if they ate peanuts when they knew they had anaphlaxis to peanuts etc... So... there really was 1 of this type of reaction in over 4000 people in the study. Were they just in someplace that they were exposed to a huge amount of allergen? No one knows, so no " good " answer can be given. If a person is " high strung & anxious " & has asthma & allergies and hates shots, are they more at risk for reaction? They are just because of their phobia and mental state. We all know when we are stressed or very upset our asthma is worse. So, until we know all of the facts behind each incident, no blanket statement can be made. Anyone writing on the internet can write whatever they want, they know anonimity lets them write whatever pops into their heads. That being said, I am sure we don't have anyone in this forum who would purposely tell a story to upset the rest, but out on the net, we have no idea. It is possible to put something in your body that your body decides it has had enough of, and have a reaction. That is the way food allergies build up. So, yes it is possible. Probable to happen in the masses, I don't think so. I am sure there are a few people in the millions who will eventually receive xolair that won't tolerate it, but the good it does the rest of us should be a reason to start or continue it. We can walk across the street and get hit by a car, we are in a controlled environment for the most place getting the drug. Epinephrine & albuterol/atrovent stem the reaction. My best advice to my patients, is to try it, when you feel better, get off prednisone & other drugs, you are lucky and blessed that it works for you. There will always be a very few that it won't help, and I am upset for them. Hopefully soon, we'll find a cure not just a tretament. Remember to donate to the American Lung Association, they fund most of the research and even have 3 facilities in Florida that are research based. Hope that helped. Guest guest
Thank you for the clarification Pat. For me, xolair has been a gift from God that I spent 3 years waiting for. I am not cured, far from it, but each time I flare it is a bit easier than the last so I KNOW one day I will be off pred and I will have my life back. As for side effects I have had none and I am not worried at all about it. I have enough side effects from the rest of my meds!! (10 mg and counting....) __________________________________________________________ Find your next car at http://autos..ca
