Guest guest
Hi Pat: That's kind of true, except that the body doesn't squirrel away the food protein in fat cells, the body marshalls its fighting forces to ward off the threat from the offending food, which it recognizes as an enemy. Then those fighting cells retain the memory of the offending food and immediately go into attack the next time any of it enters the body. That's why even the whiff of an offending food or microscopic particle can cause anaphylaxis. As you say, some people may have different levels of reaction. A child can become deathly ill if a classmate brings a PBJ sandwich to school, but my husband is OK with a little shellfish, as long as it's not more than a bite or two. The trouble with food allergies is that it's so difficult to test for. You obviously recognize hives, throat swelling, etc., but you might not think of a little GI upset a couple of days later, or a feeling of malaise or fatigue. I used to go to an allergist who did drops under the tongue for food allergies and he gave me a list of things I am allergic to, including milk. My current allergist did skin pricks and said I'm not allergic to any foods. He said my husband was allergic to only lettuce, yet he gets major hives if he eats crab, scallops or lobster. Guest guest
Today at work i ate some green beans.. raw ones. About 5min after eating them my mouth was soo itchy... i've never had an itchy mouth. After about 5 min of being totally confused of what was going on i took a benadryl and the itchyness went away. My throat didn't close up, it felt like it was going to start to but has anyone had an itchy mouth? Usally my throat feels like it has an expanding marble in it then i take an antihistimine. Anyways just wondering, Nicki and Tena > Food allergies are different from environmental allergies in that our body sqirrels away the food protein in our fat cells when we have a food allergy. Guest guest
I showed up positive on my allergy test to legumes ( beans, peanuts, exc) I've eatin them cooked before, i think are green peas the same as green beans? anyways i have reactions to pinto, black, lima, kidney, and red beans, along with peanuts. The green beans were thoughly washed before i ate them, i just thought my mouth being itchy was different. Nicki and Tena (SD) > > Niki & Tena > > If the green beans were truly fresh, it might have been whatever was sprayed on the beans by the grower or the grocery store. With all fruits and vegetables, please scrub them before eating or even cooking them. There are fruit and vegetable scrubs available commercially. With Broccoli & Cauliflower soak in warm salt water before eating or cooking. > > Pat > > > --------------------------------- > > Find Great Deals on Holiday Gifts at > >
Guest guest
Green bean allergy is different from a green pea allergy. It looks as if the peas are what you tested positive for, BUT I would stay away from green beans now too. Peanuts are truely a vegetable, having said that, they are a nut too. In this holiday season with fruit cake & nut cookies & holiday pastries, please be very careful. The tree nuts people use during this holiday in their recipes still could give you a problem.
