Guest guest
that's great that you got your first shot today! the only " side effects " i seem to get is bruising and soreness at the injection sites. the soreness usually goes away in a day or so, and its only if i lay on the area. if i remember correctly, when i started the shots, my dr made me wait an hour also - nine months later, they have me sit for fifteen minutes, although even the RN there doesn't really understand why. i'm hopeful for you that xolair will change your life. it took six months for me to see a real difference but i look back now and wonder how i managed without xolair. heather --- In , " " <cox58asthma@y...> wrote: > > > Hi everyone, > > Just a short post to let you all know I had my first Xolair shot > this morning, no bad reactions, no side effects felt yet, it didn't > even hurt really. It did take me 6 months to see some relief from my asthma symtoms though. With some people, they see almost instant relief. With some, it has taken up to a full year. Remember, Xolair is not a " rescue " medication like an inhaler. Give it some time to work My doctor STILL makes me wait a full hour after my shots. He is very picky and doesn't like to take chances whatsoever with reactions. He even makes me carry my Epi Pen with me all the time just to make sure. Welcome to the " newly injected " LOL! Guest guest
Doug, My Dr has me carry an EpiPen also. I have alot of food allergies too. Thanks to all of you I knew not to expect an immediate improvement with the Xolair, so I'm not disapointed. I'm really hopeful that that there will be an improvement in the future though. My Dr has me on 60 mg of pred now, till I start to see some improvement, as nothing else seems to keep my symptoms manageable. She says we will cut this back in a month or so. I had to go to the Social Security Office yesterday, my Dr said I should apply for disability and if it turns out that I don't need it well, that will be even better. But anyway, while I was there my asthma started acting up (I suppose something in the office triggered it) and it was about bedtime before I started feeling better. Usually when it does that it takes a couple days to get better. I wonder if it was the Xolair that helped me get over it quicker.-- - In , " uca79ii " <uca79ii@y...> wrote: > > > --- In , " " <cox58asthma@y...> wrote: > > > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > Just a short post to let you all know I had my first Xolair shot > > this morning, no bad reactions, no side effects felt yet, it didn't > > even hurt really. Guest guest
, I certainly hope Xolair helps you and that you can step down from the pred soon. Be really careful to step down slowly...I have had some terrible experiences with pred withdrawal in the past. Hope you're feeling better soon, Addy
Guest guest
Addy, Thanks for the warning about stepping down slowly. I just got a copy of Coping With Prednisone - interesting reading - I'm learning alot. I'd certainly recomend that anyone just starting out on pred read it. Hope you get to feeling better too. - In , " pyle456 " <coachmac@w...> wrote: > > > , > > I certainly hope Xolair helps you and that you can step down from > the pred soon. Guest guest
I got " Coping with Prednisone, " last year, just about the time I started Xolair. I wish I had had it long before, especially the information about how to fight cravings and not eat foods that just make everything worse. This last week I tried to limit my sugar intake. Whole grain bread with low sugar peanut butter seems to be able to help my cravings without providing too much sugar. I gave in and used my nebulizer tonight - it's not that I'm tight or anything, but I still have all this phlegm and I can't seem to get rid of it. Has anyone heard from Greg lately? Guest guest
I'm going to try limitimg sugar, I use Equal anyway, but I guess it means to also check ingredients in foods like cereal and packaged foods. My Dr has me drinking Gatorade because of low blood pressure, 1 glass a day. Boy, does that stuff have the sugar and salt! So I'm not sure if I can cut that out or not, I'll have to ask. As for the salt that's why I'm drinking the Gatorade to get salt. Now that I'm on pred maybe I don't have to drink Gatorade any more. Until then, I'm going to cut down everything but the Gatorade. It has to help some. Does anyone have a more detailed eating plan for when you are on pred? -- - In , " pyle456 " <coachmac@w...> wrote: > > > I got " Coping with Prednisone, " last year, just about the time I > started Xolair. Guest guest
Hi, , You might want to try small, frequent meals to maintain your blood sugar. There are sugar-free sports drinks, but those may be low-sodium as well and just have the other electrolytes. Check at GNC or other vitamin stores. Guest guest
Hi Cheryl, Thanks for the info about the sports drinks. We live in a very rural area, so I'll check next week when I go to the city to get my Xolair shot. I think eating small frequent meals does help with the cravings. Apples seem to be a good snack that gets rid of my craving for sweet stuff. -- In , " Cheryl " <hoefelmeyer@h...> wrote: > > Hi, , > You might want to try small, frequent meals to maintain your blood sugar.
