Guest guest
hi tina. good luck with your xolair shot tomorrow (today?). i was also the first patient in my drs office to start with the xolair in january 2004. during my first few doses, a local representative from either xolair or novartis/genetech (i can't remember) was at my drs office when i got there. he showed the staff how to mix the xolair, draw it up, change needles and inject it. i'm not sure how common that is, but it was definately helpful. my dr has a rotating schedule for injection sites (i get 375 mg -- 3 shots). i inject into 3 of the four sites (left arm, both thighs and stomach) and we rotate with every dose. after my third dose, the pharmacy sent a nurse trained in xolair, and she showed me how to mix and inject. eventualy, we switched from my right arm (difficult to self inject when you're a rightie) to my stomach. as for the weight loss, first off, congratulations!!!! to your dr, regarding the xolair, it might not be that big a deal. you can mention it to your dr, but they might not change your dose. good luck with it. remember it takes a little bit of time to build up in your system, so you might not start feeling a difference for a couple of months. heather misssdallas <misssdallas@...> wrote: HI pat, i recently joined this group, im going for my first xolair shot tomorrow. however i am still nervous. (side effects) after reading the last few posts from the few people having side effects im really scared. my first question is all the reading that i have been doing, considering that my pulmo office i will be the first to recieve the injection, that the xolair page in the internet says that no more than 150mg should be injected into one site alone. if my dose is 300mg that should be 2 sites? i feel bad telling my md that she has to make it 2 sites but im am being safe. and the second question is that since i have been ordered for the 300mg i have lost over 20 lbs. whish should bring my dose to 225mg per the xolair page. make sense? thanks tina > Yes, Prednisone adversely lowers IgE, some school of thought say it can go either way (high or low), but really has not been my experience. So dosing a prednisone dependent patient can be tricky. If hey don't feel Xolair is working after 3 months and the MD wants to stop Xolair, I ask them to consider the Prednisone & IgE. Most increase Xolair dose & wait 6 more months. Some are still hard headed and think a Nurse can't teach a octor anything & do a dis-service to their patient by stopping the Xolair prematurely. > > Keep up the good work! > > Pat > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
Makes sense Tina, the only reason they split the shots at 150mg is that 1cc/ml of medication is about all that should be injected under the skin. More would make a larger " lump " that would get red, inflammed and maybe itchy. People call that an " allergic reaction " . It is nothing of the sort. Even though it is 2 shots, personally, I'd take the 2 shots. Pat __________________________________________________
