Pamela,

Welcome! I am so glad to hear that Xolair is making

its way slowly through Canada. I have been on it since

April 22. I am patient number 9 in Canada and # 2 in

Quebec. I am making slow but steady improvements and I

am on the lowest amount of pred since Nov 2003.

Xolair was approved for use here November 18, 2004 but

the distribution network (through an organization

called the Xhale program) had to be organized.

So it would appear you are a pioneer in your city too!

In Quebec, the government pays for meds for the bulk

of the population (young and old). I pay a max of 78$

a month for everything. I get my Xolair through

supplemental insurance at school (I am at McGill) so

with this coverage I actually get everything

reimbursed. I need to be a student forever! My nurse

at Xhale is a godsend. She did a lot to sort out the

whole insurance thing. My suggestion is to get your

doc to fill out the application form (he can get them

from his Novartis rep) and then the Xhale people will

run interference with you and your insurance providers

to get them the necessary papers etc to get coverage.

If you still have to pay a co-pay, there is a patient

help program too.

The Xhale people can be reached at 1-866-9Xolair in

Canada. The phones are staffed by a great group of

very helpful reps who will give you all the info you

need about applying. They are based in Burlington,

Ontario I believe.

Do let me know how it goes!

ps I am so glad to meet another Canadian! As of

mid-August, there were about 240 patients getting

treatment.
