Guest guest
Hi, I was hospitalized with my asthma on my 14th birthday. Have had severe allergic asthma since I was three, and I'm 30something now. I also took adult doses of meds from an early age. If Xolair had come along when I was 14, I would have begged my parents to let me have it. I know every parent takes a huge risk when they let their child take any medication. But if your child has to take a lot of oral steroids and if she's had any hospital or ER episodes in the last year, I would recommend you seriously consider it. God knows I love living and breathing without prednisone. Addy > Hi, > > My name is Robin , and my daughter, Tawnia, has had asthma > for all of her life. Guest guest
Hello, My son started taking Xolair when he was eleven and now is thirteen. He saw immediate improvement. Our life was being spent at the doctor's office or ER because of his allergic asthma. I will be glad to answer any of your questions. summitseeker1200 <summitseeker1200@...> wrote: Hi, My name is Robin , and my daughter, Tawnia, has had asthma for all of her life. Guest guest
Robin, I am a nurse in a specialty pharmacy. I track all children under 12 and all people over 65 on Xolair. We currently have twin 2 year olds on Xolair. I wish I had enough space to tell you about them all. They are doing fantastically. There is one child from the age of 5 that couldn't leave his home because his allergies were so bad. He was on oxygen and more than the adult doses of medication since 5 years old, after his 4th shot, he was off oxygen, his nebulizer was put away and he ventured outside to toss a football with his brother. This was the first time in 6 years he had been outside, his mom and I were both crying on the phone when she told me that. That is not a typical response. Sometimes it takes 9 months or a year due to other circumstances for enough IgE to be bound that the attacks or exacerbations quit happening. Some people experience body aches, head aches " flu like symptoms " for the first couple months that seem to be associated with the injection times, but go away shortly after experiencing them. Stay tuned to the group. They are a wealth of knowledge. Just remember that each person on earth is an individual and we all react differently to same stimuli. Give your daughter a hug and kiss and tell her she'll be better soon. 1 year in a life that is going to last 80 or 100 years is not a long time in the scope of things. Guest guest
Hi, Robin, I realize that it is very scarry to be a mom and see your child sick. I am Sr. , I have had asthma since 1988. I had been struggling for years not knowing why I was not feeling well. Especially when I left my home town and area. I would loss my voice for 6 months and went to the doctor and they said it was a cold or something like that. I was in Minnesota for vacation and came back and coughed for two weeks straight and my regular doctor was on vacation and I went to a clinic where I saw a different doctor and she said that I did not have a cold and recommended me to go to a pulmunary doctor. She is the one who diognosed me with asthma. It is scarry for me when I am not feeling well and am not sure what it is. But since I have been on Xolair it has been a lot better. The main problem is getting others to realize that even though I can run around at times and at others I can hardly move because of the breathing. The point I am trying to make is to trust your doctor and know that their is another person that is there to help you and your child and that is God. Or as I like to say the Man upstairs. Trust your instincts. Blessings and may you all " breath easier. " Know that we are here routting for you and each asthmatic who is in the group.
