I suffered a neck injury from a car crash about 1 1/2 years ago. From

an MRI, it was determined that I had 3 bulfing discs in my neck with

some stenosis. My neck is stiff every day despite tons of therapy

plus it creaks which it never did before. I also have TMJ and my jaw

shifted to the left because of the accident. My xrays showed my spine

to look like a snake curled in two different spots. I was straigtened

out by the chiropractor. Nothing was broken and because I wasn't

crippled or anything my doctors kind of ignored my pain except to

recommend shots which actually hurt more. My left shoulder was bad

and is still bothersome. I don't think surgery is for me - not on my

neck at least. What I worry about is possible future injury. Also

whether I could ever work out and lift weights again. I also suffer

from piriformis syndrome which limits my sitting. That injury won't

let me use that one thigh machine where you abduct your legs outward.

Man, did that hurt.

Any ideas? Am I just stuck like this?

Hi Carol, Welcome. Sounds like you are finally on the right track. As far as the

Pnuemovaccine challenge, it does take a minimum of 3-6 weeks to get the initial

results. They take a second set of blood tests at that time to see whether they

have responded. ( so before and after testing) Then you test again several

months later to see if they are stilling staying. My son is now 14. He is doing

very well but has been on Gammaglobulin since he was 3. You are at the right

time to make a decision regarding staring Gammaglobulin. In my son's case it was

a matter of constant infections and then becoming allergic to 5 classes of

antibiotics. I feel blessed we have the choices we do now for these kids. Keep

moving forward and learning as much as you can from Immune Deficiency Foundation

which has an incredible amount of support and information.

Hello everyone, I am Carol, I have a 4 year old son that

has been sick with severe asthma and specific poly-saccharine antibody

deficiency, well, his entire life. We are finally getting to the bottom of his

problems, but first I had find a doctor that would actually listen to me when I

said there was something wrong with my son.

We have done the Pneumovax challenge, (boy was he ill from that vaccine) and

should have the results in a few weeks, although I am pushing the immunologist

to see if he can get them done more quickly.

His main problem is sinus infections. We can't find an antibiotic to knock them

out and if we do knock them out, he then catches another cold and we start all

over again. Currently, he is taking a sulfa drug and a very heavy dose of

corticosteroids to keep things under control.

He used to get sick just stepping into a mall or restaurant, etc.

Last winter we isolated him for about 12 weeks and he also had his adenoids out.

Since then he does not get sick as often.

I don't know if we will be going the IVIG route since it seems that going with

prophylactic antibiotic is the next step. He has been on antibiotic fairly

constantly since April as it is.

So, I am here to learn about all of your experiences and to gain insight into

immune deficiencies.

thanks, Carol
