Guest guest
I'm still waiting to hear from my insurance company re: approval for Xolair. I really hope I'm not going to be dissappointed. I had a really tough week. Went to my family physician last Wednesday because of escalating asthma conditions/cold/fever. She put me on a 5 day burst of 50mg pred and Zithromax. I started feeling better after a couple of days and then on Sunday I was needing my ventolin every 1-2 hours. I went to the E.R. yesterday morning because my peak flows were down to 200. They gave me 24 (yes 24) puffs of Ventolin, 16 puffs of Atrovent and another 50mg of Pred (total of 100mg). They wanted to " kick start " my lungs. More like kick start my heart! This all in 3.5 hours. They then sent me home on: 50mg Pred; 2 puffs qid Ventolin; 2 puffs qid Atrovent; 6 puffs bid Symbicort; 150mg Theophylline; Singular. I'm going to try to go to work tomorrow for a few hours and push some papers around on my desk (I'm a bookkeeper). I go back to see my dr. tomorrow and will be interested on her take re: all the ventolin. I asked why they did not do nebulizer treatments in the hospitals anymore. The nurse said that the mist was introducing germs into the air and getting health care workers and other patients sick. I wonder if this was in relation to the SARS outbreak a couple of years ago???? ....do they do nebulizer treatments in Montreal? We are only 2 hours away from Toronto which was the hardest hit area in Canada with SARS. Anyways.....my body is not as jittery but I sure would like to sleep sometime soon! Pamela Kingston, Ontario P.S. Please pray that the " good people " at Manulife decide that I need to be on Xolair!
