Hole-lee cow. I'd be in a straight jacket from the freaking panic attack all that would have caused. I can't take albutreol or ventolin. It's hard enough keeeping my heart from tachying with the theophylline and Duoneb. I use my portable Omron for treatments. Duoneb (if needed) and Intal. I'm trying out Foradil (sp?) and am less than impressed. It doesn't seem to be helping as much as hoped. My insurance has okayed the Xolair, but ugly second thoughts are rearing their heads. Everyone is worried Xolair will be like the 2 inhibitors and the company isn't telling about all the side affects. Of course, I'd rather not hear about the conspiracy stories. And I'm maxed out on all the asthma drugs I can take. Theophylline SR, Duoneb, Intal, Pulmicort, Singular is what I am taking right now. The only other option is loading up on Prednisone (no no no). I've tried allergy shots and all the other MDIs. I guess what I want to hear is I'm not going to drop dead in the office after the shot (only kidding--grin). Did any of you have second thoughts about starting treatment? I see my doctor the 3rd. Thanks to all that have read this far... Guest guest
Nan, this med has and will change my life. I cried when I found out it came to Canada. No side effects at all. __________________________________________________________ Find your next car at http://autos..ca
Guest guest
Hi, welcome to the group. I had no second thoughts. My weight had ballooned from pred; I was in a sick cycle all the time; I got everything that went aroudn the office. I've had allergic asthma for so long. I talked it over with my husband and said, " there seem to be no apparent long term riks, but I don't care if I get cancer 5, 10 years from now and it's linked to this drug. I cannot live my life any longer. " I LOVE Xolair. It turned my life around. Guest guest
I'm anxious about starting on Xolair because of the increased cancer risk. BUT I've gained so much weight on steroids and in spite of just finishing my first year on Weight Watchers, being very adherent to the program, I haven't lost weight. The good news is I didn't gain another 10 pounds, all in my abdomen, as I'd been doing in each of the pre-Weight Watchers years. The steroids also bumped my already high BP to the point that I needed 3 BP meds to control it and my skin is a mess - I bruise unbelievably easy and get skin tears with only trivial brushes against my arms. I also have very bad GERD (gastric reflux)from the steroids, for which I take more mega-meds.So I'm very ready to give Xolair a try, but I am very nervous about it. Just waiting to receive insurance approval to start. Also, I've received antibodies as IVIG over the years for an antibody deficiency, had a number of very bad reactions and am worried that something similar might happen with Xolair. Oh well, only time will tell and I am SO tiredofsteroids! Guest guest
WElcome to the group! One of the things we do here is remind everyone who's worried about the " cancer risks " that the numbers of folks who got cancer in the trial studies were not statistically greater than folks from a random sample of people not taking Xolair AND of those folks who did get cancer following participating in the trials, there was no way to tell if they had cancer before starting Xolair or not. Each and every one of us has to do a cost-benefit analysis when trying a new medical therapy, but let's face it - could any one of us make it through chemo while living with severe persistent asthma and taking all those drugs? No way. Doug, our group founder, has taken more pred than I have over his life, but I've taken a lot of it. Prior to starting Xolair, I was doing a taper a month for almost 2 years. I had a very rough go weening off pred in terms of my adrenal gland recovery, but after about 4 months that was all over. I still bruise easily though. I love living life with Xolair. I hope that it will be of as much benefit to you as it has to most of our group. Please let us know how you are doing with it. Take care, Addy Group moderator
Guest guest
Thanks for the welcome and the great information, Addy. It sounds like you've had great success with Xolair!
