Guest guest
, In the package insert for albuterol as well as the patient info, it does say that worsening of athma symptoms is a possible effect. I think you should stop using it immediately and tell your doctor. I've actually read an interesting abstract, which I'll try to find, about how certain kinds of bronchodilators can make you have fewer receptors for your body's own epinephrine (adrenaline), which has the effect of worsening symptoms. See below. Best, Meryl IPRATROPIUM/ALBUTEROL (Inhalation) (Aerosol) Side Effects Call your doctor right away if you notice any of these side effects: Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in face or hands, swelling or tingling in the mouth or throat, tightness in chest, trouble breathing Chest pain, or fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat Lightheadedness or fainting Tremors or shaking Worsening asthma symptoms If you notice these less serious side effects, talk with your doctor: Blurred vision Dry mouth or throat, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose Leg cramps Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or upset stomach Nervousness, trouble sleeping Problems with urination Hi all, I've got a couple of questions for those of you who've been at this longer than I. When I got my 4th Xolair shot Fri, My Doc cut the pred back again. I felt great Sat AM. She had got me down from 60mg to 20 mg with no problems over the last 2 months. This time we went from 20 mg per day to 10 mg the first and second day, 20 mg the third day and I don't know if it's the cut in the pred that's making me so short of air or what. This is the day for the 20mg dose, so maybe I'll get to feeling better later. I really don't seem to be getting a cold or anything. And I really haven't done anything to irritate the asthma. Does cutting down on the pred get worse as you get to the lower doses? 60 mg per day was the only way for me to breathe before the Xolair, I hope I don't have to end up increasing the pred again. I suppose if I'm not better by this afternoon I'll call my Doctor and see what she says. Also sometimes I seem worse after nebbing with Albuterol. This is something new. My chest feels like it really tightens up and I get shorter of air. Has this happened to anyone else? I use the neb every 4 hours. Happy Holidays everyone and stay healthy. Guest guest
, I'm not Dr., but I suspect that your body is going through some major changes with the modification to the pred dosage. I do know that if you have been on pred for a long period of time, it can take quite awhile for your body to start producing adrenaline again. While I realize my own experience may not be typical, and as I have indicated in previous posts, my pred dosage has been for another affliction but taking it gave me the side-benefit of asthma control. Having said that I have basically quit taking pred altogether after 14 mos of Xolair. I was taking 30 mg / daily for several years prior to the start of Xolair and was still having a lot of wheezing. Gradually I tapered to alternating days of 20 mg and 10 mg, like you are doing now. After about 8 mos I got to 10 mg on every other day, and then 10 mg about every third day, and now I don't take it. Once in awhile I have to use a rescue inhaler (usually towards the end of the month, prior to my shot), and I am taking Advair 500 twice daily. Also recently started taking Spiriva, but the jury is still out on the benefit of that. On another note - I am shocked by the posts from folks who have indicated that they are leaving a partial vial of Xolair when they are getting their shots. This stuff is like liquid gold! I guess the math works - if you are getting 375 mg then you have to be leaving half a vial, but I have to believe that the extra 75 mg wouldn't hurt you, or at least they would package a smaller vial so as not to waste it. Can't believe the insurance companies haven't caught on to this and forced the issue. Clear breathing.
