Sadie,

I don't have any specific information on weight gain associated with breast implants. But I can tell you after 5 years of reading posts from hundreds of women that many have had to deal with this issue, either as a result of taking prednisone, adrenal insufficiency, thyroid problems, (most common), inability to exercise, and there may also be a problem associated with the metabolism of fats. The reasons are varied, but it does appear to be an issue.

Some women, on the other hand, are very skinny and have lost weight due to severe illness. These are in the minority.

Of course, many women will say it has to do with age, but in my opinion, aging is a condition in which the body is less able to function efficiently, and breast implants definitely screw up the bodies ability to function efficiently!

Subject: weight gain

i posted last evening due to the agony i have with these breast implants. as i said at the last post i cannot entirely blame the implants with my weight gain, but i know that it has to do with it in some way. my whole body has changed since the implants a little over 7 years ago. does anyone have any information or thoughts on weight gain in connection with breast saline implants? i am 50 years old now and i feel 70. i am so depressed. thanks sadie rose

Dear Sadie,

i think weight gain is very common in women with implants. I do

believe that there are several factors at play here. Of course there

is the fact that if one is ill it is much harder to work out, hence

the weight starts to pack on, but in my case I know that I went from

a lean muscular 119 to a still lean heavier 125 and then up to about

127 with implants. I still worked out, lord knows how, as I was so

ill, but I was determined and very crazy(almost suicidal) from the

brain fog so I thought oh well, might as well kill myself with

exercise. I had a very crazed mentality with implants. I got them out

after 18 months of sickness and torture and got better and better and

now I feel like my old self only better. My health is awesome again,

the weight has come off, and I am back to about 119 120 ish and body

fat is 19% and working on it getting lower, to about 16 or 17 % I

will be happy. I work so hard though, it amazes me how hard I work. I

could not have worked this hard with implants in my body, especially

not my chest muscles. Anyhow, I believe the longer one has the

implants and the illness the more of an issue this will be. Some

women when sick or depressed will also tend to emotionally eat too, I

know I have done that many times, so as you can see it is not only a

physical issue but an emotional one as well.

I think that if you get the implants out and heal and then begin a

reasonable diet and exercise plan you will see results. If not then

you need to see if your thyroid is functioning properly.

good luck

Although antihistamines may cause weight gain, I do believe that we who have been poisoned by mold have a big problem with metabolism because mycotoxins interfere with our endocrine system - something called the HPA axis - and we can't properly absorb or utilize foods. This seems to affect women more than men and I bet the type 2 diabetes which seems to come in about 7 years after exposure is directly related to this problem. I am not a doctor but have been researching this issue for awhile and I think there is a connection. I do hope some of the researchers on the list put this together for us. Mal

Very interesting. I also believe that the chronic fatigue associated

with mold poisoning has a lot to do with it. It's a vicious circle.

The CFS and FMS causes inactivity, which causes weight gain, both of

which can cause diabetes type 2.

Hi, i'm new to board but have been taking xolair for a year. i was not

previously on predisone. i noticed a lot of people lost weight coming

off the predisone. i eat very healthy and work out almost daily and

drinks tons of water daily and those habits haven't changed in the past

year. i gained 15 lbs the first month after the shot and another 10lbs

the second month. i also get the hot flashes and sinus headaches

almost daily. i was wondering if anyone else had these symptons and

if/when the symptons went away if they quit taking the xolair?

hi. i'm sorry to hear of your recent weight gain. i wonder if you were like a

friend of mine from way back. my friend was on 20 mg of pred a day, and some

how her body must have metabolized it differently, and it caused her to lose

weight. (the body is a weird thing -- its like me - i take benedryl and i become

hyper).

i would ask your dr, like others said, just to be sure everything is okay.

i'm sure its frustrating. good luck

I'm a male in my early forties. I've been on Xolair for about 15

months. I've gained about 20 pounds. I was relatively fit before I

started taking Xolair. Now I've got a big stomach. I work out all the

time (Same as before). But since being on Xolair, I've been unable to

lose the weight. Everything I eat turns immediately to fat. I've never

had this problem before. Weight gain does not run in my family. I'm

not taking any other medication (I was not on Prednisone before).

Welcome to our group :)

I have been on Xolair for over 2 years now. I lost 35 pounds last year.

Xolair is not supposed to have weight gain as a side effect, however

all of us are different.

You are not on anything else but Xolair for your asthma? WOW!

Congratulations. Most of us still have to use our inhalers and other

inhaled steroids.

Drink half your body weight in ounces of water every day and put a squirt of

natural (real) lemon in the water. If you do not have any cardiac or kidney

complications, this is the best way to get rid of the extra weight from

Prednisone.

I don't know if you read my earlier post, but I gained 20 lbs in the

first couple of months taking xolair. I've also been on xolair 15

months. I wasn't on predisone when i started taking xolair either. I

researched the weight gain, and have been told numerous times it

cannot be the xolair. One nurse at the doctors office, said another

patient asked about weight gain also. She said it's possible that it

slows metabolism because your body isn't fighting allergens as hard

as before. I even had my thryoid checked, and is fine. I jog 5 to 7

days a week, a bit more than before xolair. I have to say that it

has helped as i hardly cough anymore but it has been a very slow

help. I still don't feel great.

In January I switch insurance carriers. I'm finding out that I will

have a lot less coverage, and the possibility of not being able to

afford it is high. I'm going to have to discuss the possibility of

going off of it as I'm already paying a fortune out of pocket with 5

prescriptions and allergy shots. If the 20 lbs magically comes off

fast, I will let everyone know!

Yes Yes Yes! Thank you! I was so frustrated because I

have this problem and nobody else seems to. I have

been on Xolair for over a year. I noticed weight gain

right away. Last December I started walking nearly 3

miles a day. That wasn't working. 2 months ago I

joined a gym. I do 30 minutes of Cardio and an hour of

targeted weight training. I am 46 years old. Before I

started the shots I had lost about 11 pounds. I put

that back on right away plus another 15. So since I

have been working out ( and eating right )I have lost

2 pounds. Right after I get the shot they are back on

again. I lose them and then I get another shot and

they are back on again. So my thinking is if I wasn't

working out I would weigh a whole lot more than I do

now! It's like trying to get super glue off your

fingers! So I eat eggs for breakfast along with fresh

juice from my juicer. A yogurt for a snack later along

with a banana. Then I have some tuna fish and maybe

some tomato soup. For dinner a chicken salad with

Raspberry Vinagrette dressing and crackers. It varies

but that is pretty much my normal routine. No weight

loss. Grrrr.

Ok..I am done venting.

I've been on Xolair for a year this time. I have just finished

losing the 30lbs I gained with my last encounter with the evil

candy. It has taken 16mos! I finally weigh less than I did before my

I got sick for the last years. Could it be another med? Alot of them

play havoc with appetites and react differently with different

people. I know how frustrating it is. I hate the weight gain from

pred. I hope it changes for you soon. becki

I don't think it is any other meds. I have been on the

same stuff for years. Actually I am taking less now

that I am on Xolair. I take Uniphyl and Foradil.

Thats it. No anti-depressants or anything else.

Occasionally take something for sleep but not that

often anymore. I guess Xolair just hits some people

differently. The good side of all the working out I am

doing is that I am less flabby! I am finding muscles I

didn't know I had. But the scale isn't moving. I know

that muscle weighs more than fat so at first it is

normal to not see a drop in weight but after a certain

amount of time you should and I am not.

was from being a college student....not eating right, eating in the

car and in class, eating late at night while doing assignments...

but that should change - i took my last final tonight. my goal is to

drop the 15-20 pounds i gained during the MA program by
