Guest guest
*thing* is the area at the base of my skull on the left side, that brings me great pain everytime I yawn or open my mouth to eat. I don't know " exactly " what " it " is.... so the thing I referr to is the area of pain I have since I don't have a diagnosis of what is going on in that area Sue > > And this thing at the base of my skull, well, it brings me to tears > when I yawn or open my mouth to eat. Guest guest
What " thing " ?? I wish I knew what that thing was. The thing I referr to is an area at the base of my skull on the Left side that causes me great pain everytime I yawn or open my mouth to eat. So since I don't know what it is, I refer to it as " That Thing " . Sue > > I am doing just simple pool therapy, and having a hard time doing just > that. It's like something always has to go wrong! Guest guest
Sue, are you talking about the tempromandibular joint (tmj)? it is the joint that opens and closes when you open and close your mouth. hope this helps. lexie
Guest guest
Hi Lexie, No it's not that joint. The problem area is at the " base " of my skull at the back of my head on the left side. Not in the jaw bone or near the jaw bone. Although I do have tmj... this is no where near that. It is at the back of my head, near the middle, but off to the left a little. Thats where it hurts.... I think it might be a badly inflammed facet. Only think I can think of... I just know it hurt pretty bad... > > Sue, > are you talking about the tempromandibular joint (tmj)? it is the joint that opens and closes when you open and close your mouth. > > hope this helps. > lexie > >
Guest guest
ouch! God bless ya Sue, that's a bad place to hurt! I was fused C5 to occiput last January and it was NOT a cakewalk from my end. My disease simply put, allowed my head to sink down onto my neck and squeeze everything in its way. I will be praying for you! Lexie

Guest guest
Hi Pat, I have had many MRI'S done, and I don't think they have looked at that specific area. But I do have arthritis on the base of my skull, and the facets are arthritic too with a lot of inflammation. Thats all I know. I have a doctors appt on friday and I am going to talke to him about it AGAIN. It just gets to the point now that it will hurt if I move my head even slightly. To me it feels like there is not enough room between what ever is hitting together. Kinda like two sore irritated raw bruises hitting against each other. But I need to find out what this is. It is causing me a lot of pain and grief. It's just always " there " . And lately its highly painful, and none of my meds are helping it. So I am at a loss.... Guest guest
Dear Lexie, Ya know, this is so weird you mentioned something about allowing your head to sink down onto your neck... This morning when I was putting my make-up on, (not that I need it mind you) ha ha ha but I had turned my head just very slightly, and at the base of my skull on the left side, it felt just like that my skull or something slipped just a little. And when it did, it felt like it slipped into something that felt like a small bowl shape feeling. I know it sounds weird, but it did feel like that. And it worsened my pain instantly and progressed throught the day. I got to the point that that area was so sensitive it hurt to move even the tiniest bit. I am just having a big problem in that area, and I always end out losing my thought or have a hard time getting my doctor to believe or understand what I am trying to say is going on. I think I need some kind of different scan there, but I do not know what kind of other scans there are to look at something like that. Does anybody know if there is such a scan that can look at " movement " ?? Like a live real time scan to see the movement to see maybe what is going on there? The doctors have all said that my neck is " stable " . I feel otherwise at times. I feel movement, and when things do move, it is hard for me to get comfortable when I try to sleep. Maybe the plates shifting.... I don't know, I'm at a total loss right now.... But hey, I went to pool therapy yesterday----without pain meds!----- and I did " okay " . Didn't even take one all day or night yesterday!! Although today was a different story.... but hey, that was some progress huh? Sue > > ouch! God bless ya Sue, that's a bad place to hurt!
