Guest guest
Hi everyone, About two years ago my allergies " blew up " . I was skin tested and was positive for cat, dog, ragweed, grasses, and house dust. I started on allergy shots and acheived maintance dose last year but the shots failed to control my allergies. Last year, I made multiple emergency room visits and took seven bursts of oral prednisone. I was also on singulair, inhaled albuterol, inhaled steorids (asthmacort), and zyrtec. My IgE levels were just above the 30 mark which allowed me to take xolair, but my allergies were off the scale. I have decided that IgE levels do not necessarily correlate with the severity of asthma. For the first two months on xolair, I did not notice improvement. In the third month, my symptoms started to abate. This year, I have gone through grass pollen season sleeping with the windows open. I have quit taking zyrtec and radically cut the dose of my inhaled steroids. I use my rescue inhaler on average, once per week, with the exception of a three day interval at the height of the grass pollen season where I used once a day. xolair, has allowed me to take back some portions of my life and i am grateful. the one area that xolair has not helped with is organic vaopors (methanol, etc). I still am reactive to these and, if exposed, need to use a rescue inhaler immediately and ride the inflamation out for a day or two before things return to normal. Has anyone else noticed that xolair helps with pollens, ect but not necessarily with non pollens? Thanks, GQ
