Hi

the rain and cold is doing it to me too. This time of year I take Epson Salt

soaks in the tub alot, it really helps the aches and pains...

(Im only 44 but this time of year my body feels older..)

Anyway you might want to try that, sure its temporary but it sure does help and

make you feel better.

When you come home, get off work and get the kids taken care, tell them its your

time and fill that tub and get in and soak for at least a half hour if you can,

hot, hotter, hottest! It really does help.

take care,

Discouraged and Hurting today

Hey all,

I guess it's my turn to complain. I'm hurting again. It's been a long

two weeks. It has been raining and snowing here in RI a lot over the

past two weeks. I just can't take it. I'm exhausted and worn out. I

have to go to work and I can't move. The radio frequency

lesioning/ablation doesn't appear to have worked and I'm discouraged.

Yes, my pain had been releived by a good 70% by removing the hardware,

but I still have bad days. Mostly when it rains, but sleeping is still

a challenge too. It's been a little better now that my hubby got a

Tempurpedic mattress for me though.

Feeling very discouraged.

It would help if my hubby was more supportive.

---

P.S. May you all have a pain free day today!

I thank god for my memory foam mattress and highly reccomend one to you fellow

back sufferers. Why did you have the hardware removed? I was told that most

likely mine would stay permanently. Only removed if there's problems.

Thanks!

Exactly. I had problems. Back pain. hardware is a

foreign body and some people seem to accept it better

then others. Foreign bodies cause an inflammatory

reaction and I had continuing back pain, but it was

localized to where the screws were. I did all the

injections and stuff and went back to my surgeon and

he said it was most likley the hardware giving me

problems. I had almost instant relief from the

removal. It was a short but painful recovery, but

within days I noticed a difference in the pain.

Trace,

I don't see how you guys do it. There is no way I can work anymore.

Too many more bad days, than good. You and people like you are my heros.

I struggled for years with my pain and working. It finally got the better of me.

I would take heating pads, lidocaine patches, back pillows, wrist braces,

massage mats for my office chair, all of my pain meds, everything to work with

me and it finally got to the point I couldn't take it anymore.

The stress of my job didn't help matters any. I had a very very high stress

job!!!

Now, I consider myself very luck. I moved in with my boyfriend Feb of this year,

had two back surgeries this year. He has been nothing but supportive. He works

everyday rain or shine, sick or healthy, sore or not so that we can have a roof

over our heads, pay all our bills including my medical bills and everything else

and doesn't EXPECT me to do anything.

I think he considers it a blessing if I am able to clean house or wash clothes.

He is content. Don't get me wrong it is definitely a stress on him. But, he

takes it like a man.

He along with those of you who still struggle every day are my heroes.

To be extremely corny, Just keep on trucking Tracey, you give the rest of us

hope.

You bet your booty i did many, many cases with flours

and yes... it hurts like hell! I also did the evening

shifts and was the only scrub most of the time, so i

couldn't switch rooms with someone, but when i

could..I did! Spine casesa are the worst though. They

don't use flouro, but there are about 10 trays of

instruments for a fusion and they are a good 20- 30

pounds a piece. you have to move them around a lot

during the case as they are stacked up..and above

waist level!!! Ugh! I really LOVE those cases though.

They are my psssion and I miss them tremendously.

Makes me sad.

Are you able to take meds and concentrate? I was on long acting meds and

took short acting meds at work....I had been on them for so long that they

didn't affect my thinking. When I was hired I was already on all of the

meds...of course when I was hired I didn't pass the drug screen and had to

wait while employee health docs spoke with my doc etc. The interesting

thing was I was told my HR not to tell my nurse manager about the med's that

I take. They said that evey time the narc count was off people would think

it was me.....so I never did tell......after having been in management for

10 years and nurses came to me that had drug addiction problems I thought it

was the right thing to do.....granted, the ones that came forward and talked

to me....I never thought rwice about it.....because they were

upfront......anyway after I was told not to...i listened. I never told

anyone at work what meds I took either.....years ago I had a bottle of

fioricet with codeine, with 60 pills in it that I had in my bag cause I was

getting migraines....the first time I went to take a pill out of

it......there were 5 pills left.......a coworker or family had taken most of

the,.....i was upset at that point.

As a women and a RN we are caretaker's. It is how we were made. I

understand completely. I worked a full time job.,3 12's and 3 to hour

shifts in home care. I was making myself sick.....whenever I called in

sick(the first two years it never happened) sick my husband (ex now) would

get mad.....I worked with a bowel obstruction....I finally left work, and

drove home.....his response was can you drive yourself to the ER....i said

no I will wait till the morning...he dropped me off......and I was admitted

for 15 days....my ex husband sounds like a horrible idiot doesn't he.....I

have to say that he treated me well...as long as I was healthy...when I was

sick..he wasn't mean...he just didn't know how to comfort or how to be

empathetic. His mother had a v tach arrest at home....was brought to the ER

comatose....he and his father left after 20 minutes even though they were

told his mom would die.......I stayed overnight with her.....

How does Hubby respond when kids are sick? My ex was the same....my son was

premature in the NICU on dopamine and epi drip, paralyzed vented and they

came in and said they were transferring him by helicopter thatq they

weren't sure he would make it thru the night.....my hubby wasn't at the

hospital...he was at home....I had just had a c-section......i called him

and I was hysterical....he thought I told him that my son had died......just

as my husband never went to 1 obgyn appt. He just didn't know and when you

are the one sick....its hard to do the teaching. People that have husbands

that don't know how to respond will see that the husband is the same way

with the kids. If your husband is kind caring and compassionate with your

kids.....then I would say that is a whole nother problem.

The one thing that I did which was huge.....if your hospital offer short

term disability...PURCHASE IT...it will pay the first 90 days.....if it is

on a pre existing condition it wont pay for the first year you are on the

policy. Did your hospital not give you long term disability after the third

month?

Its funny my ex husband was the baby....his siblings are in another

generation....sort of like being an only child.....i think that has

something to do with it.....if he doesn't know how to respond to the

kids...its that he just doesn't know how. My ex is a fantastic

father.....except when they are sick,..,he shuts down.....he has had to

stand up to the plate since we have been divorced.

How old are your kids ?

I feel for you.....its amazing after your back surgeries that you are able

to work. The doc told me he thought after a fusion I would never work

again....

Dear ,

So sorry you are hurting so bad, and I really don't know how you do

what you do... honestly, to be in pain like that and still struggle

through the days of working. I wish I could take everybody's pain

away!! We all suffer through so much, and to have a spouse that

doesn't give the kind of understanding that is needed is just

compounding your stress.... I wish I had some magical words that you

could tell him so that he would instantly understand. It makes me

feel very fortnuate to have the husband that I have...

I'm guessing you atleast get good support and understanding at work,

I sure hope you do. Here's wishing you a better day tomorrow....

Gentle (((((HUGS))))) and blessings.

I am sorry you are having it rough without your family support right now, I

guess you are right in a way, men are not built for these kind of situations. I

can't stand a break in status flow, and when it happens I freak out over it. I

am in my third marriage, and even though I have a few choice words for the ex's,

I remember they being tougher than me when trouble starts. Only thing I have

learned is nothing goes good all the time, and when I have to step up, there

that woman behind me causing me to go ahead and  " step-up " . I keep reminding her,

" what would I do without you " , but I can't repeat some of the responses I get on

this forum. lol

If your DH is your  " true one " ,  he will step-up for you when the time comes, at

least I/we as men hope for you. You are truly a strong woman to go through what

I have read in your words, keep the faith, and you will be shown the way.

God bless all you women for what you go through for us men.

george

Thanks for your kind words Shayna. It was a blessing

to me. I'm so happy for you that you are in a good

place where you don't have to work. I have no choice

really. When I was working in Boston, just before my

last fusion, my husband would not let me quit or cut

back my hours. We needed the money and I have three

kids. i worked in such incredible agony, 12 hour

evenings in the OR, four days a week, plus call. I

worked in so much pain that towards the end I almost

blacked out and I collapsed after a case one. I had

Tachycardia all the time and my blood pressure

sky-rocketed. I did not sleep as I hurt so bad and I

usually lay on the floor trying to sleep a little. I

even had EKG changes. After the secong collapse in two

weeks, I left work on my own accord. I was not healthy

anymore. I was a mess physically and emotionally. We

moved up my surgery. I was out of work for 7 months

with no pay and it was almost the end of my marriage.

men just don't seem to be built for sucking it up it

seems. I don't know, maybe it's just mine. If it were

me, I would go though hell and back to save my spouse

from pain. It would kill me to see him in somuch aginy

and I could not force him to work. I guess he just

didn't know what to do. He's an only child too. Very

sheltered. No coping skills cuz his mom made sure life

was just perfect. Kids need to go through stuff

because it makes them stronger, like was saying.
