Guest guest
Hey, I had similar surgery on the same area in April 08. Then had basically the same surgery on cervical in May. If it were up to me, I think I would still go with the correction and stay away from hardware. Most of what I have read from people with fusion say they would never do it again. Keep in mind, once the hardware is in there, then there is no going back. With the lumbar area being affected then an inversion table would probably do you good. It helps with the DDD and will also help you keep from reherniating. While I know you can reherniate with little to no pressure, you must be CAREFUL. No more lifting for you I'm afraid. Those days are over. Well, I hope this has been at least a little helpful. Good luck with whatever you decide. Shayna It is better to be hated for who you are than liked for who you aren't. From: T Leister <tlovenrotts@...> Subject: Herniated L5-s1 and Inversion table spinal problems Date: Sunday, November 23, 2008, 8:24 PM Hi I'm new to the group and was reading some of the post. I had surgery on my l5-s1 disc in Jan and now it has herniated again much larger than the first time. the dr tells me I can have the surgery I had the first time (where they go in and clean it out) or I could have a fusion, it's up to me. I also have DDD. I'm a bit confused about having the surgery (not sure that it will work) and was wondering if anyone has used the inversion table with any luck or if you can use them when you have had a fusion. I read how much some of you are in pain and it makes my pain sound minimum compare to what you all deal with. Thanks for any info. tammy

My neurosurgeon will not repeat that type of surgery because he said it can cause too much scar tissue, which at the end of the day, if you need a fusion, will make it that much more risky. That said, I am scheduled back to the OR on 12/15 for my fusion. My inversion table did wonders to relieve some pressure and open up that space prior to surgery. I don't know because I haven't asked, but I'd be hesitant to use it post op fusion because it is designed to " pull apart " the space and I would think if I'm getting a spring plate with screws, I wouldn't want to be tugging at that area too soon. If anyone knows the answer to that question for sure, I'd like to hear it please. Thanks! Best regards, Patty A -------------------------- Above text © 2008 PEA. . Guest guest
Hi, Sorry it's taken a while to reply, I've been a bit down and 'flu- like, so not been on the pc. Anyway, I had L4-S1 fusion in May this year and when I went to see the consultant in October, I asked about my inversion table. He said it's not a problem, I only have to avoid knocks and bumps (hence no snowboarding or roller coasters for a while!). I assumed because my fusion is fixed, i.e. no spring plate, just rods, they won't be pulled apart by just the force of gravity as they are screwed in really well. I'm not sure what the situation would be with a spring plate though, I wouldn't want to advise one way or the other. I've used the inversion table a few times, very tentatively, and it's been fine. I'm still a bit apprehensive when I fully invert and can't seem to let myself completely relax in my lower back yet. But, it's helping to take the pressure off the rest of the spine for now, and hopefully after a few more goes I'll get used to it and ease up a bit. I'm not saying that everyone will be ok on an inversion table, I wouldn't want someone to try it just because I said I do and then have a problem. Please check with your consultant/doctor, etc, as all surgeries are different and being inverted might not be ok for everyone. Guest guest
Inversion tables are contraindicated for people who have had a fusion. Especially if within the first two years. --- grendel666h <bmw_seller@...> wrote: > Hi, > > Sorry it's taken a while to reply, I've been a bit > down and 'flu- > like, so not been on the pc. > > Anyway, I had L4-S1 fusion in May this year and when > I went to see > the consultant in October, I asked about my > inversion table. Guest guest
My question would be when you asked him about the inversion table were you both speaking the same language.....i.e words he understood and was he actually listenting. It is contraindicated until you have fixation.
