Good deal, sista friend! :)

You wrote such a lengthy and informative reply to my " Interpretation

Please? " post that I hoped we could continue the discussion off list.

I surely will continue the discussion if you would

like more information, but for one thing, it was the

weekend and I was very busy. I also have three

children and a husband to care for and a part-time

job... I don't always have time to respond to emails

as quickly as some might wish, particularly ones that

require some thought and/or discussion.

There is such a thing as patience. Just because

someone doesn't respond when you want them to does NOT

mean they are not going to.

I'm getting ready for work now, I will respond to your

questions when I can.

Thanks,

Hey . From all of us others on here, I want to thank you for your input

that you put on this group. It is so nice to have your thoughts, expiriences,

and medical know how... " what to watch out for " take on our collective spine

problems. I think asking you for (lenghtly?) opinions off the list and on a

private email is not something that you should have to do. JMO. I do think this

'thread' was a little " much " to ask of you... Again... MO.

BTW. My inquiry on anxiety meds.. They put me on alprazolam??? Good??? Not

good???

Hi ,

I'm more than happy to share what I know here, I

consider it my duty in a way. I just don't like to be

badgered...that's all. ;)

As far as the alprazolam (xanax)...I think it's an ok

medecine...but I would have considered Buspar. I saw

your question but you had so mant replies and there

are so many choices, I figured you didn't need another

opinion.

I was diagnosed and started treatment for anxiety

early this summer. I take Buspar twice a day and it

has changed my life. Buspar is a long acting

anxiolytic vs something like valium, ativan, xanax,

etc. Those meds are better for short term and quick

acting relief, not for daily use in the prevention of

anxiety...as they are highly habit forming. Xanax is a

benzodiazepine and as such is highly habit forming,

it's also a very strong benzo as well.

I have absolutely NO side effects on Buspar and it

doesn't make me spacey or tired like many other meds

can.

Also, benzos in conjuction with narcotics can depress

the respiratory system, buspar does not have this

risk.

Something to think about.

Take care,

Several days ago I entered the topic " Interpretation Please??? " and

was kind enough to submit a very long and informative reply.

I was absolutely startled at her knowledge and the time and effort

she took in generating her response.

I thanked her with my lengthy reply then suggested/requested she

email me off list if we intended to further the discussion.

Why?

Because off list is the right thing to do.

Why?

Because it would not clog up time and space on this wonderful spine

disorder support group...

Hi Pat,

Thanks for your patience. Life can be so crazy with

work and kids.

In response to your question on how I know so much,

it's because I am a surgical nurse and spine as well

as vascular are two of my specialties. I have worked

with some of the greastest spine surgeons and they

have been kind enough to share their knowledge with

me...as I too am a spine patient. I have learned much

along the way. I also assist the surgeon with the

surgery so I have first hand knowledge of all things

surgical.

The reason I suggest the aorta as a source of

calcifications is that the descending aorta runs

parallel to your spinal column. Your aorta branches

off into two vessels called your iliac arteries right

about at the level of L4-L5 and L5-S1. Contrary to

belief, your aorta is much bogger than the part that

comes off your heart. It is the biggest blood vessel

in your body. The area where the aorta splits off into

the iliacs is prone to cholesterol/ plaque buildup

bacause of it's structure. Plaque causes inflammation

to the wall of the artery which will over time become

calcified.

Please don't go offline. Continue to share your knowledge with the

rest of us here. My problem is my neck, not my lower back, (yet) but I

am learning from your posts and appreciate the time and effort you put

into them very much.
