Guest guest
Today is the big day to see the neurosurgeon. I have been building myself up all morning as to what I might ask. As I mentioned before, I have multiple things going on in my spine. I don't want to get brushed off by them telling me " if you loose the weight " . If he ask me that I might just loose something and it won't be my weight. The last surgeon I seen in 2001 told my husband that he should trade me in while I still had some mileage left on me. HaHa for him, I know it was a joke, But how disrespectful. That is how things get planted in others heads. There on his desk sat a picture of his rebuilt wife ( plastic surgery ). Fortunate for him he had money because from the way he looked it wasn't by attraction. I just hope that this experience will be better. Any advise to what I might ask on the first visit? Guest guest
Depending on how bad your pain is.....ask him if he can help you.....I don't know how much over weight you are but weight does play a part in a bad back. There is no excuse for the way the doctor spoke to you..but be prepared for a weight talk. The neuro surgeon would be doing you a disservice if they didn't say something. If you just have bulging discs...they don't do surgery for that. If you have DDD a fusion might be the way to go...BUT the doc would probably want you to lose weight first. I have had three back surgeries. The second surger y I wasn't overweight by any standards (size 2) and the doc told me that I might feel better if I lost 5 lbs. Every lb extra your body carries I think relates to (I just had surgery tues and on hvy drugs) I think something like 50 lbs axial load in your back. I just want you to be prepared...go in their strong. Guest guest
Sorry, I forgot to mention this..the worst place to carry weight if you have back problems is in your abdomen as this dierectly pulls on your spine.
