Guest guest
Hi folks, I decided to tackle both of you in one response. First I'd like to say.. what is up with these doctors and the " age " thing? I'm 34 - I had my first spinal surgery at age 25, I herniated L5 during my daughter's birth and it took the med. professionals in my area 3 months to figure out what was actually wrong opposed to what they thought was wrong. hint - it was figured out when they actually looked at the MRI they sent me for after it set on the desk for almost 3 weeks! I understand the concept of aging and the disc wearing out - but disc diease and the problems therein happen to young(er) people too! I had another disectomy in 04 - followed by recurring pain within 3 months, it took another 9 months before they figured out I need a fusion (L4/L5). I will tell you - after that fusion, I have never been the same. It took away the mind-bending pain I was experiencing (thank god!) but it has left me with more all-over pain and neuropathy in the right leg. I still have lots of problems with pain and nerve damage - but my doctors have stopped listening to me because they don't believe me. I'd love to say to you both to find new doctors, but that's not always possible and not always a solution. " They " say that you have the right to stick up for yourself where your medical care is concerned, but in my experience you make doctors as your enemy when doing so. Before you go with the fusion, or any other major surgery.. try looking into decompression therapy. It couldn't hurt.. any worse than it already does. I don't think I helped much - but I do wish you both the very best care and recovery.
Guest guest
OH, my gosh girl. I didn't write the original post or respond to it, but when I read you're email, well, it could have been my response. Unfortunatly at the moment I have a couple of errands to do, but I do want to respond to your email, not because I have answers (far from it) but because we are two peas in a pod and maybe venting our frustrations to each other might help (not physically of course but...). It's unbelievable how many idiot doctors are out there and I do unfortunatly have somewhat of an explanation for the 'age thing', that I just found out about, and though I hate it, it does make sense, but yet stil makes me wonder. I apologize that I can't get into it now, but I did want to respone ASAP in case I forgot. If I don't get back to you today, email me to remind me. I don't have any answers myself, but maybe if we share some of our experiences maybe we might get somewhere??? Well I can hope anyway.... Anxious to talk with you! Guest guest
Hey Group, I had meant my response to go directly to the sender of the email but oops, it got posted. NO biggie. And actually if any of you wish to correspond via email with me as well if you are having similar issues, feel free. Maybe with all of us we can figure SOMETHING out, aside from the fact that we all are beginning to think (okay, well I can only speak for myself, so I apologize if I offend anyone) that there is no one out there willing to help us adults who were born with SB and that they are all a bunch of idiots (and I say that lovingly
