Guest guest
My spine surgery was about $135,000 but that was for a cage with rods and hospital for 5 days. This was in nyc. Please be sure to get a lot of different opinions from qualified surgeons before you go ahead with surgery. Marsha Sent via BlackBerry from T-Mobile Cost of discectomy in the US Hi, So, last time, my consultant last time said he wanted to remove both l4/l5 and l5/s1 discs and my gp said that's not a good idea. I'm going to see the consultant again in a few weeks and if he still suggests removing them, I'd still like to get some more advice, as surgery is the last step. I'll do it if it's worth it, but I need all the evidence first. If it does come to it, can you guys in the US give me an idea of how much it would cost for me to do it privately if I flew over there? I'm in the UK and although it's free on the NHS, you never know who's going to do it, what kind of hospital you'll be in, etc, although we are supposed to have some kind of patient choice (not that I've seen *any* evidence of that yet). I've seen a few people who have said certain specialists have helped them, so if it's within my means I'd rather pay and have it done by someone who I know will do it and not let some student rummage around my innards. Thanks, Gareth.

Marsha *********************************************************** That is about what I paid in central Florida. but, don't forget, if you are traveling you may want to stay over in a rehab center. I did not have anyone to care for me when I left the hospital and made plans to spend 2 weeks at a rehab center. I received the medical and personal care I needed plus physical therapy 4x a day. That was $400 a day. You may be able to get that for less in other states. I had originally planned to have surgery at Duke in North Carolina and from what I remember, the surgery, hospital stay and rehab center was much less...but that did not work out for me. Dr. Lavoie, Orange City, Florida, did my surgery. He came highly recommended and was the doctor I saw for a second opinion. He is also the doctor who will be doing surgery for C6-C7. Good luck and keep us posted on what you decide. Guest guest
Thanks for both the replies on this. I was a bit shocked to be honest. Privately over here in the UK, with a one week private hospital stay and removal of two discs, I was told to expect a bill for around £15,000 (approx $30,000). That seems like an incredible difference. But then I suppose that must be due to the US having a purely private system, so prices are bound to be greater. I can get the procedure for free over here, including the week in hospital, but obviously private is nicer and I have a greater control of who does it, where I go, etc. So, that probably rules out the US, there are still a few other places people have mentioned to me that I'm looking at (e.g. India, Spain, etc.) Thanks, Gareth. > > My spine surgery was about $135,000 but that was for a cage with rods > and hospital for 5 days.
