Guest guest
Wenoka, Glad Kody isn't the only on obsessed with his age! LOL!!! He drives me crazy over it, I cringe when people ask him how old he is because he gives this 15 minute rundown on being almost 7!!! Diane Please feel free to visit my website for parents of children with multiple special needs : www.geocities.com/schmidtzoo/SNAK.index.html -- Diane That is EXACTLY the way was about turning six. Every day for the last 2 months was a countdown, and he just about had a cow that his sister's 2nd birthday was 2 weeks before his and she turned a year older before he did. Every day....... " when will I be six. Why can't I just be six now. I don't want to be five anymore........................ Guest guest
Sam wouldn't even wait to be asked. He'd go up to any stranger that looked at him and tell them how close he was to being six. Sometimes I'd have to just shake my head. 8-) What's has me spooked is that his sixth birthday was on Dec 10th, and he is already asking when he will be seven. AAAAAARRRRGGGHHHHH!!!!! Guest guest
ROFL!!!! I hadn't thought of that! What if Kody does the same thing??? When you come up with a solution let me know!!!! And the worst thing is, Kody has no concept of time. Yesterday and tomorrow and last year and last week are all the same to him. So try to explain when his birthday will be. Worse, try to imagine his conversation about his almost 7 birthday.... " I'm almost 7, but I'm still six, I'll be 7 last year but tomorrow will be my 7th birthday and at my last party yesterday I had 6 candles but this time I'll have 7... " !!!!! No joke that is how the conversation goes!!! The difference being if that child has a behavioral plan in place that addresses that behavior. Zeb does have that plan so by using a suspension is interpreted as ignoring the behavioral plan which is part of the IEP. Every situation is different with sped ed kids. I don't think that your friends son should have been suspended. The school could have handled the situation differently by just discussed the incident with him but they took the easy way out. One less sped kid to deal with. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 10 DS/OCD ?

The principle apologized and I think was told to do so by higher ups. My friend did not let her child go back to the original class that this happened in. So far so good but her kids is still only going 1/2 day. He is in first grade. The original teacher remains teaching even though she has had many complaints filed against her. They must be in short supply of autism teachers. I actually viewed the class for Rochelle and the teacher told someone I knew she didn't want Rochelle in her class. She said, That parent knows what she wants and she was intimidated by me. I would view that placement as too restrictive if the child doesn't have a reason that he couldn't attend all day. Is your friend aware that that is a change of placement? I would have chewed that school system to bits! Charlyne Mom to Zeb 10 DS/OCD ?

She doesn't want to overwhelm her little boy. He really doesn't need the academics because he is ahead of the class in those areas. He was kept back a year in pre-school despite protests from the school. I think he may have been not challenged in the self-contained class she had him in. That was restrictive! She is just happy that he can be in school. He is very high maintainance. But a good boy. He probably should have been in a general education setting to begin with. It is just that the school won't give him the support he needs. You understand that part. I applaud your efforts. It makes it easier for the next child down the road. Irma offered up good suggestions. We also never punish Maddie for it. She doesn't understand punishment anyway, so it would be a futile and stressful attempt. What we DO do, is take her immediately out and sit her on the toilet, after dumping said poop in first. We have to move with speed lightening....I don't want to gross you out, but remember she has pica...YUK!!!!!! As for getting Ro to sit on the toilet, try pouring warm water on her private. Maddie didn't like it at first, but now sits eagerly because she loves it. Heck, if we're in the bathroom, all I have to do is show her the cup and she sits....LOL Diane, thanks for the suggestions for winter/cabin fever activities. We used to have a tramoline, but she broke it. I swear, our nickname for her is Bam Bam...she breaks everything. I have a pretty sturdy bed, so we let her jump on that. Kids off again today...third day in a row. They are going back tomorrow though...can't Wait!!!!! LOL Donna
