ROFL! Thanks Beth!!! Yesterday was day one of adult enema's and I didn't see

any change from the ped. enema. Maybe he needs more than one dose to work? I

don't know. He is not going at all without the enema though. Which concerns

me. So we'll see how today goes. I have to call the ped in the morning

tomorrow, and sadly unless today is volcanic I'm sure he'll admit Kody. Sigh.

But I'm glad to know that Batmen don't mind KUB's!! I'll tell Kody that!! His

cough is worse too, although not horrific, and I am holding off for now on

bringing him in for it. It is a dry cough, doesn't sound productive and when

I listen to his chest I don't hear congestion in his lungs but rather up

higher.

Thanks Donna, the funny thing is I couldn't put my finger on exactly why I

was crying. I just felt overwelmed. And I don't like that feeling. And it was

such a heart wrenching cry I was glad my hubby was sleeping. I did feel

better after. And I do appreciate all the people on this list. I don't know

Hi Diane,

of mucas that is induced when he drinks. I have not been very sucessful today

How are you getting pain relievers into Zeb? We used suppositories, JJ

never would have swallowed anything. And what day are you at----about

day 10 the scab comes off--it gets better from there.

Hi Diane,

Well, as I had finished sharing/venting with y'all. It helped alot,

I still feel calmed. Even if my day off had gotten side tracked,

never fails. Rick my 16 y/o middle son was not feeling well and away

to visit the doc. It was practically an all day event. He was

tested, x-rayed and sure enough his asthma was kicking in along with

a sinus infection and allergy. Under medication now, so he is

feeling better. Then headed out to take my dh to the airport of all

hours the busiest stressful traffic hours. As I had returned onto

the highway I received a call & ended up having to work for about 3

hrs. My brain still feels refreshed, if I did not have ya'll, I

probably would of gone insane. Now, I'll be nice. : )

is fine for now, no fever, yet. Knock on wood. Today, I had

received a package from KKI, boy was Amy Jewell, pretty quick. Great

information. I need to share this with many who associates in my

sons world. Ok, I have back-up just in case things do not work out

here.

Hugs!

She is fine. She is not really into food all that much. She does have a healthy

appetite and is a giant among down-syndrome. We are not tall parents and it is

surprising. Actually she is in the 50% percentile for hieght and weight for

typical kids. But, all her little down syndrome girlfriends are peanuts. I say

girlfriends but really they are my friends kids. She has no concept of friends,

I don't think. If she has something to chew on she will not get into things. She

is just looking for some stimulation to her mouth.

waiting for that day. I think you just got blessed. smile.

Hi Diane,

Don't ever give up hope. I for one were in your shoes many moons ago

and had always thought was deaf or would never talk. Our kids

are always full of surprises. In my opinion they do learn and only

when they are ready. I hope I'll still be around to hear when you

share Rochelle's precious day when she is ready.

>

> Rochelle had a playdate with long time friends of mine from early

intervention. Both their down syndrome girls were quite social. I'm

always glad to see them but then I do feel blue later on. All the

kids and siblings tried to interact with Rochelle and hug her and me

when they said good bye. I am happy for them, I guess it just is

natural to wonder.

> Diane

So true, it is natural to wonder. I am also happy for my fellow

friend's DS kids when they are HF as they are still labled and still

confront many issues.

Well, today I actually decided to give up not attending The Annual

Medical Conference for Autism just so that I could have under

a trial with one of my friends who is a Chiropractor who is also

willing to assist alternative routes which I've had asked him to

try. has been very agitated lately and even his teacher had

noticed it. He is not agressive, just like a depressed mode moods.

Back to the no sleep issues. I know it hurts his teacher to see

this, she goes all out for her students. So of course, this worries

me as her and her staff are very good with him. I know I could have

him under meds, but once again I'll wait to see if the alternative

route works first. He is not under the Sensory Integration at this

time as he has a new case worker and this just threw off the funds

for SI. So now I'm waiting to see if this other person whom I've

been trying to contact will work with him as the Ctr. for Health

Care Services will only apply the funds for ABA Therapy.

behaved wonderful with with my friend the Chiropractor during x-ray,

discogram, eval, and the adjustment. He did not want anything with

me, just hang out with him, which of course is good. Now to see if

he'll cooperate this month with following appts. coming up dental

and his annual eye exam. He does not want to wear his glasses and

has had several incidents already walking/bumping into walls and of

course does not want any cold packs or bandaids on. Well, my life

would be boring without my challenger. Chat later, take care. Hope

all is well with you and your family. Hugs.

Hi Irma,

How typical for not to want to wear eye glasses. I went throught this in

5th grade. Is he going to Chiropractor? I have gotten adjustments in the past.

How did he do? He sounds like he is doing ok without meds yet. I wouldn't do

meds unless he is violent or dangerous to himself. That's what I think I will do

with Rochelle.

I think Rochelle has gotten strep again from school. This would be the 4th time

since January. I'll know Monday. I hope not. She is on penicillen until we find

out. She is so much better since we started giving it to her. A different girl.

I am beside myself. If it is strep I am ready to call health department. What

would you do?

Miss you. How are you? I am overwhelmed as usual with the kids and school. I

don't know how you keep up. I just want someone else to deal with the school. I

can't deal with it sometimes and I expect the school to do a better job then me.

LOL I understand thier frustration. I am seriously thinking about getting an

advocate just so they will take me seriously. I told the principle the other day

that Danny needed support in Art. She said if I thought an extra adult was going

to be there it wasn't going to happen. I don't remember the exact wording. I

told her it wasn't up to her or me but the IEP team to decide. I am getting

bold.

Irma, Rochelle just came up to me and climbed in my lap and said Mommie, mommie,

mommie laughing. She sat with me laughing and hugging me. (I say that loosely)

She had her arms around my neck. Ahhhhhh

Thanks for the encouragement. You are soooo sweet.

Hi Diane,

Did you bump into walls? : ) Was it because you hated your glasses?

is long over due for a new pair of glasses and his

prescription changes each year. I am looking forward seeing him

wearing a new pair. Kinda of gotten use to staying updated with the

fashion trend for him.

My back feels pretty strong now that I can be his mom again with

the appointments needed. Last Monday I attended a Sensory

Intregration Workshop with Carol Stock Kranowitz, M.A. as the

speaker, she was great. Some of the things she had mentioned sounds

like what is going through. I know has Sensory Issues

due to having an assessment done and I wonder if this is difficulty

with visual-spatial processing (ability to interpret & respond to

what the eyes see)? I'll wait and see what the Opthamologist reports

after his examination. I will also attend a support group for the:

The Sensitive Child, Sensory Integration. Food Aversion / Behavior

Issues/ Speech Delay every 1st Wed. of the month. So that I may

continue getting educated in this arena and hopefully learn to deal

with the SI Associated problems.

>> Is he going to Chiropractor? I have gotten adjustments in the

past. How did he do?

Yes, he was also my doc for my back and I slowly had introduced

when I use to have appts., so that whenever I was ready for

this trial he would get to know him. He did wonderful with him. I

did some research on how treatments such as chiropractor and

nutritional therapy have all been suggested to help alleviate

symptoms. Some experts feel that the chiropractic treatment is an

important part of correcting sensory integration. Chiropractice

treatment seeks to reduce sensory integration problems through

proper alignment of the nervous system and reduction of stress on

the spinal cord. Therefore, chiropractors perform slight adjustments

to alleviate these stresses, and help bring about improvements in

the nervous system, particularly for areas regarding motion

sensation, and proprioception. By keeping all avenues of treatment

open by a professional this was a decision I've finally decided to

see if there were any chances. I would not recommend this to any due

to some past experiences that I have had with other chiropractic.

Until I met my doc whom I trust and is pretty knowledgable with his

work. Once again all a trial.

>> He sounds like he is doing ok without meds yet. I wouldn't do

meds unless he is violent or dangerous to himself. That's what I

think I will do with Rochelle.

Yes, same here. Knock on wood. I've had under meds when he

was younger. It did not work out as he did not have close

supervision by a physician educated in this arena. Not a pretty

picture being lethargic, aggressive, etc.. Eh, zombie like all the

time.

>

> I think Rochelle has gotten strep again from school. This would be

penicillen until we find out. She is so much better since we started

giving it to her. A different girl. I am beside myself. If it is

strep I am ready to call health department. What would you do?

Have you asked if many other students have been absent due to strep

throat? Especially in her classroom. I hope Rochelle continues to do

well with the pencillin. How's her appetite? Is she able to drink

plenty of fluids? If you noticed that her classroom is not cleaning

well with the proper disinfective (sp?)cleanser and this continues

thats when the school district should be aware. Since many kids with

or without a dx have low immune system and could easily pick up any

bacteria. Ask the teacher how is she cleaning the classroom, toys,

etc.? This is hard for an instructor to keep tabs of our children

and try to clean right behind every individual. When Rochelle has a

strep throat, how long does it last? How are her ears doing? Are

they red?

>

>> Miss you. How are you?

Thanks, same here and hanging in there. I've been pretty busy. Lots

of work, workshops, celebrations. There might be a possibility of

finally quitting work at the end of May. Today, I finally made some

time to write a resignation letter. But, then tomorrow could be

another day, still have to see it myself to believe when that day

happens.

>>I am overwhelmed as usual with the kids and school. I don't know

Do not give up. You've come a long way to get your kids where they

are at. I hear ya on the frustration at both ends. If we don't ask

for it our child probably won't get it, so it becomes essential that

we master the fine art of being persistent without negative nagging.

Do hire an advocate, if possible. Sometimes the advantage here is

having a third party who is not emotionally involved. What you wrote

on the principal words, that was a very unprofessional remark to

you. Earlier, today I made some time to write a letter to our

legislator, so that they could vote against H.R. Bill 1350, the

House Bill to Reauthorize IDEA. This we do not want.

you become an expert. Sorry no solutions, just sending you some

Diane,

What's your hearing history? Does each mapping feel ok when you leave the

office? Are things loud enough or not loud enough? Which implant do you have

- if it's the Nucleus then I would feel more qualified and confident to ask

and hopefully answer questions. Do you play with the buttons in different

That's so funny Diane!!!!! I remember several months back when I was at

Hi Diane,

I will let you know exactly what assemblies are planned and how well they

were recieved. The school has already placed an order for the children's

disability books and the posters are in the process of being framed. I gave a

list of

books on inclusion that the school must purchase and have available to the

staff in the teacher's lounge. If you think that your son is feeling different

then you must speak to the principal, guidance counselor and teacher as a group

to address your concerns and find solutions. I had the school send a social

worker into the class while Zeb was at speech one day to discuss what a

disability is and how it affects the class and their classmate, Zeb. The first

question the social worker asked was how is your class different and the class

answered because they had an aide to help. They never associated the aide with

Zeb.

It proved that Zeb was looked upon as just one of the kids. Stategies like

this may help. Just an idea that I thought was useful.
