Guest guest
My pulmo worries about my breathing and my regular doc worries about my osteopenia - early sign of osteoporosis. After talking with both of them I went to a used sporting goods store and spent $8 on a pair of 3 lb weights. I downloaded some exercises from the mayo clinic website for working with small weights - and without - to improve posture and strengthen my back. I'm now walking 30 minutes per day 5-6 days per week and doing 4-5 different exercises for my back trying to exercise 45 minutes total (but not necessarily all at one time). I've been doing this for 2 weeks now. The pounds aren't coming off yet, but I can tell my back is getting stronger and in general I'm not as tired at the end of the day. I got a bad URI after Xmas and have not been able to totally step off pred yet. It had been so long since I had a URI thanks to the Xolair, that I forgot how miserable I used to feel all the time. I mean, really, how have we all been managing with this???????? Take care all, Addy
Guest guest
i can definatately relate, addy. i've been fighting something for a few weeks, and its finally hit. URI, sinus infection and a double ear infection. i'm trying to figure how i dealt with this all the time?! i'm so exhausted right now, and no amount of sleep/rest seems to help. my biggest fear right now is having to go on the pred. i've been pred free since teh summer, and this is day four of antibiotics, and i'm feeling worse than the day they were prescribed. i just bought an ellipitcal machine, so i'm hoping that it will help me lose the last 10-15 stubborn pred pounds and give me back my energy. heather ..att.net> wrote: My pulmo worries about my breathing and my regular doc worries about my osteopenia - early sign of osteoporosis. Guest guest
That is so good that you are able to do some kind of exercise, Ill bet there was a time that the mere mention of exercise caused you to breath hard! I am doing a lot better with Xloair. I can continue to work. It is still an every day-all day thing for me. My rescue inhaler is a must for me, several times a day. I really do not have " attacks " any more, just the onset of difficult breathing and any exertion and I am out of breath. I just got over a URI and it did not seem as severe but, I realized that was how I was feeling all the time prior to Xolair. Been on Xolair for 10 months and do not know what I would do if I had to go off of it. For me it was not an overnight success and am hoping for more improvement when I reach the one year mark, but I do term it a success. I had to go through my congressman to get the insurance company to finally approve it, a real pain in the..., but I would do it all over again it I had to. I am not a " long term " asthma sufferer like most on this site, mine just knocked me off my feet one day after a URI and it was down hill from there, not your Normal thing as the Dr said but never the less Xloiar is the only thing that allows me to function. For the new people to Xloair and this site, hang in there, Xloair is a process not an event, things will be better, (everything is relative) Ron On Jan 22, 2006, at 6:23 AM, pyle456 wrote: > My pulmo worries about my breathing and my regular doc worries about > my osteopenia - early sign of osteoporosis. Guest guest
Addy, add the intake of 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water with a squirt of lemon. The prednisone weight will come off then. Example 200 pound man should drink 100 ounces of water daily. It is hard to get in that much when you don't like it as much as I do. I can tell you from years of experience and when my patients followed that, they got rid of prednisone weight. Guest guest
Thanks, Pat. You've been right about everything so far, so I will increase my water intake and cross my fingers! I don't like lemon, but I tried some lime and that does help. > > Addy, add the intake of 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water with a squirt of lemon. The prednisone weight will come off then. Guest guest
Ron, I am thrilled you have seen improvement. I understand the levels of improvement, believe me - breathless and needing rescue inhaler every 4 hours is a significant step up from being in attack mode all the time. I hope that you continue to make gains! I'm thankful I'm at the point I can exercise - you're right - there was a point where this would have been impossible. Guest guest
Any citrus is fine actually, lemon & lime are the easiest to " squirt " in your glass of water.
