Thanks, Cam, for sharing your experiences with Dr. Rand. I hadn't looked into things like infection rates yet, but that is an important point.  I live right in Boston, and work within walking distance of both Dr. Rand's and Dr. Glazer's offices, though walking to Dr. Rand's office would do me in since it's straight up a hill.

Hi ,

I dont think I recall you introducing yourself before, so welcome to the group.

As said, I had my revision with DrRand and am very pleased with my results. I wont bore you with the details here...all my story is in the files section if you want to read it. I had a staged procedure just about 6 years ago.

DrRand is pretty much a one man show...and as with all doctors you have to get through the " gate keepers " sometimes to get the information you need, but I have always found him, and his staff, responsive to my needs.

One of the top reasons I chose DrRand had to do with the way he wished to stage my surgeries. It was longer and harder to have it done this way, but for me, I felt it was best. I also knew that the NEBH hospital was waaaay below the national average for infections (and continues to be). This is no small thing with implants and mrsa, and I felt it warranted extra consideration. The overall care I received at the hospital was excellent. The staff there really knows how to handle ortho patients....its all they do.

The only other surgeon in Boston that I am aware of (other than DrGlazer) is Kirkham Wood at Mass General. I honestly dont know of anyone who has had revision with him...although I am sure he is well regarded. It just might take some digging around in other venues to find out information on him and his practice.

Where in NE do you live?

Take Care, Cam

Thanks, Robin, for sharing your experience as a patient with Dr. Rand, and for giving me the name of another surgeon as well. This is all very helpful. Best wishes to you on your continued recovery.

Hello ,

Like you, I started my rapid decline in 2008 with increasing pain to

the point that I was barely able to walk. Exactly one year ago today,

I had my surgery at NEBH by Dr Rand. I am still recovering, and in my

opinion, doing pretty well. I was lucky enough to only require one

posterior surgery (nearly 12 hours long). I am slow to rehab as I

also suffer from fibromyalgia, so I was at NEBH for 8 days and in

Rehab for 10 days. I also had home services.

In my opinion, Dr Rand is one of the top three surgeons in the

country. Your pain management people referred you to the best. His

revision surgery skills are exquisite. Another surgeon you could

consult is Dr Parazin (617) 566-4276. He does not do as many

revisions as Dr Rand, but is also very qualified. If you would like

to ask any more questions, I would be more than happy to assist you

along your journey

Robin
