, So glad you made it through another fall with spine intact, though I wish you hadn’t fallen at all! We get very little true winter weather in NC but since we live atop a very steep hill, I’m stuck when we do get it. Since my discs are so bad above and below my lines of fusions, I am deathly afraid of falling on ice. I just stay indoors and marvel at the snowscape.

As far as rashes go. I have had rashes as an allergic reaction to some meds. It is a very common reaction to meds and goes away when the med is eliminated. I wish you and your son well. I have a 14yo daughter with some chronic health issues and know how hard it is to see your child suffer. We always want to make things better for them and can’t always which is frustrating to say the least. My daughter has been in and out of the hospital recently and is facing some sticky surgery. Her issues can tear me up whereas I usually can take mine in stride. Good luck at the doc today. Big Hug, Kate

Group,

So Dorcas is having her surgery today, she was really nervous about the snow and ice coming for today at ST. Louis, but hopefully it will come off this time without a hitch! I'll be talking to Corky either by e-mail or phone late today or tomorrow morning, and will update you all on how it went, and how she's doing.

After a truly balmy weekend here in Colorado Springs( highs in the 60's) we are now having a truly awful winter blast, we are -16 this morning, wind chills to -37, and will stay in the minus degree range for the day. Yesterday, walking out of a store onto what I thought was only a snow covered sidewalk, I hit a patch of ice, and down I went, falling mostly on my knee and side. So for those of you who haven't yet fallen after revision, my back has come through yet another fall great, but my knee looks like I'm in third grade again, a bloody scraped up mess, but my back is good! I really need to stop testing Dr. Kumar's handy work hunh! Oh to live without ice!

I'm off in this mess this morning to the doctor with my son who has epilepsy, he has an awful rash on his torso, from a maybe drug reaction to his Dialantin. If it's not the dialatin itself it maybe that he's getting too much of the drug due to him loosing some weight. He's been off it a week to see if the rash went away, it hasn't, so his neuro is perplexed, so we are off to our primary care to get her 411 on it.

Have any of you had a drug reaction with any of your meds with a rash?

I'm looking for any advice!

Anyway, it's COLD!!!!!

Hugs,

Kate and all,

Well my son's rash isn't a reaction to his meds, YEAH( since dialantin really has worked for his seizures) it's Pityriasis Rosea. A classic case of it. They say it will last a month or two, some topical creams for the itching. I'm so thankful, if you can be, cause if it was his med's, and him loosing the seizure control we have had, I think I'd loose it. Epilepsy is tough, and he's been very medication resistant.

, Don’t know anything about pityriasis rosea but am glad it’s not the dilantin, since that has worked well for your son. lt must be very frightening to watch your child have a seizure. Has he always had them? I hope he doesn’t have anything progressive as seizures are scary enough. I watched my aunt have a seizure and had a dog with glycogen storage disease who’d have seizures. In both cases I felt pretty helpless – no fun at all. Hope the itching doesn’t get too bad! Best, Kate

, I am glad that your back remained in tact after your fall. That's good to

know...sorry about your knee, though!

When I was in the rehab hosp after I had my brain tumor, it was about a month

when I started getting a rash. I was on Dilantin, and the dr. said it was a

" classic Dilantin " allergic rash. So, I was put on Keppra. That's good that he

(your son) is not allergic to Dilantin. I had a seizure Nov. 5,2010 (the first

one after my brain tumor) and our family dr. put me on Keppra because of my

allergy to Dilantin. I went off the AED med's at least a year ago, but, I

suddenly had a seizure! Now I will probably have to take AED the rest of my

life! That isn't a good thing. But some people that I am on the internet with

(and FB)(I am on a meningioma website, too!) say it is from SCAR TISSUE. I hope

that is the case! Hope your son continues to be OK.

Carol,

I'm so sorry about the seizures, Niles tried Keppra, didn't do anything for him. His have a migrane factor, and Keppra didn't do anything to help with that, and didn't help the seizures. Depakote controls the myeoclonic jerks well, and adding in the dialantin seems to be the best combo so far. We have two more meds to try, and there is also combo's of them. There is also a no- carb diet consisting of a LOT of fats, that could be tried.

What are AED meds?

I'm so sorry, you have been through SOOOOOOO much, adding seizures and the med's isn't fair. For Niles the meds are almost as bad in some ways as the seizures themselves.

My knee is sore, but vastly improved, even drove the hubby's stick shift car with it yesterday.

Well, it's -11 here this morning, no college classes for my son, daughters start at 10 am on Delay, and the boys I babysit school is closed, so an easy day at home, doing laundry, ironing, and packing the husband for a work trip to Texas on Thursday. I sure won't want to open my utility bill next month!!!!!

Kate,

Seizures are scary, especially when you aren't familiar with them, we are kinda old hat with them now, and Niles has an Aura, and knows they are coming, so we have time to get him comfortable and safe. This all hit at 16, so we have been at it 4 years now. Our daughter has the myeoclonic jerks too, she's a year behind him in age, and so far, it's less than what Niles has gone through. She may need to be medicated soon too. You just deal with what you have been handed.

Doc said to put thick Ucerine cream on it, and he has a topical steriod cream too, so he feels better, though it looks awful. My kids always will get the weird stuff, doc says this is a pretty common skin rash though in young adults. Still thankful it wasn't his meds, have to look at the bright side of things!
