Kate,

I had a Pete osteotomy myself, but here is a good explaination of both types, majoring on what you;ll have done. Are you being fused to the sacrum too?

Hi, I have made the decision to go ahead with a posterior PSO (pedical subtraction osteotomy)at s Hopkins on May 24th with Dr. Khaled Kebaish. If anyone has had this particular surgery and could give me an idea of what to expect post op I'd really appreciate it. Thank You, Kate

, Thank you so much for sending the art. Seeing a pic of what’s to be done helped a lot. I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you but my 14 yo daughter spent a week in the hospital, so I did as well, and I couldn’t send emails out. I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to get my head around this surgery but I believe it’s because my anxiety level is so high, not to mention my pain level, when I’m examined that I can’t hear what’s being said. Now that I’m understanding it, it doesn’t seem near as worrisome as I was imagining it to be. I’m having a PSO at L3 with an extension of my fusions to T11. I’m already fused from L2-S1 . If being fused to the sacrum means a fusion to S1, I guess I am already.

Because my daughter has health issues which need my help, it is important that I understand how limited I’ll be after the procedure and for how long. I had the opportunity to have the surgery done mid March but opted not to because of my daughter’s needs. Instead I’m having a fusion of C7-T1 on Tues which I need and it will make the next step easier, while giving me a couple more months to get my daughter stable. I’m fused from C1-C7 and something I learned in getting worked up for flat back is, those discs might well have degenerated because of my having flatback for so many years without diagnosis. There’s a good reason for going ahead with surgery for those who are contemplating it! So if anyone has had a PSO I’d really appreciate hearing of your recovery. Thanks so much for thinking of my situation. Best, Kate
