Jan,

If things with your consult are less than you hoped for, here is an idea for you. Dr. Horton was a go to guy in your area, alas arthritis of the hands ended his surgical career.

So here's a doc patients here have seen in your area, she did follow up for Horton's patients after he retired.

Dr. Dheera Ananthakrishnan404-778-7000

Let us know how your consult goes today.

Welcome to the group and posting!

Colorado Springs

She'd be worth a go see, is familiar with post Harrington Rod patients.

Thanks, Cam. I live in GA and had my surgery in Savannah. I currently live in the Atlanta area. I agree that it takes a specialist to diagnose our problems!!! I cross my legs in an awkward way, especially when sitting in the car or in a bar-height chair. I know that this has exacerbated my hip pain, but it makes me more comfortable because my back actually hits the back of the chair this way. Does that make sense??? I am living on Glucosamine Chondroitin and Aleve and I feel best first thing in the morning. Sitting for long periods makes it a lot worse! I suffered from lower back pain 3 years ago and x-rays showed nothing. I was working with preschool children and just had to adjust my environment. I had to raise the table height and chair height to make it where I was bending a lot less. I will post after my doctor's visit....Prayers are needed! I know that God is bigger than any pain! In fact, I am going to Africa this summer on a mission trip, which is the real reason that pushed me to go to the doctor. I need to know that I can sit on a plane for that many hours and still be able to function!!! >> Hi Jan,> > Welcome to the group.

Most of us found the first symptoms that cropped up, assuming we had fairly asymptomatic post Harrington placements, are hips, low back ache/tiredness, or sciatic pains. If you havent actually had a diagnosis of flatback, then hopefully you will find that your situation is not going to involve and extensive interventions to get you comfortable. I hope so.

Treating us requires a fairly specialized skill set. I am not saying you wont get usable information...but just dont be disappointed if you dont walk out of the office tomorrow with a solution in hand. Years of all the other joints in your body taking up the slack for your unmovable spine can play out in accelerated degeneration, arthritis and a number of other problems. Of course...it could be that you just have an overuse injury and that a little rest will set you right.

Hey Jan,Dyann in Roswell GA. If you want any scoop on some the orthopedics Docs in ATL, I could give you a good name. I'm almost 2 years post revision. I was 45, gym 5 days a week, kick boxing and 2 c-sections when they discovered the flat back...I'll say an extra prayer that you just pulled something minor...-DyannFrom: runjan10 <runjan@...>Subject: [ ] Re: pain in hip 29 years post Harrington rod placement Date: Wednesday, February 9, 2011, 6:48 AMThanks, Cam. Hi Jan, Can you post the surgeons you would recommend in Atlanta? I am starting to look for one, and have a sister there, so that might be a perfect place to go.

Thanks!

Vicky Schneider

Jann,It is a long hard recovery... Everyone here will back me on this. Almost 2 years out I get about 45 min of exercise 4 times a week. I'm trying to push for 5, but can't seem to make it work. I took a lot of my therapy stretches and incorporated them into my routine. Getting flexibility and core strength back is so important. I just started aerobic type classes last month (step with no risers and modified kick box dance). But I have to adjust to avoid the bouncing. I don't think I'll ever run again. It's a challenge coming up with things that go beyond the the elliptical and treadmill. I still hurt a day after a after a work out if I'm not careful, but at least it doesn't send me to bed for 2 days anymore. I have a great gym with massage benches that anyone can use. I like to lie on them when

I do any weights. It's a pain getting off the floor when you are fused. Swimming is my best and most comfortable workout, unfortunately it's not good for eating-up calories, but it's awesome on the heart. I thought I'd be further along by now, but have come to realize this is a long process. And age is probably not my best friend. Stay as healthy and flexible as possible prior to surgery. It will be a major bonus for healing.-DyannFrom: runjan10 <runjan@...>Subject: [ ] Re: pain
