Guest guest
Hi Carol... Not that you'll be going back any time soon, but when you see Dr. Hu at the Orthopaedic Institute at Mission Bay, you can actually get a copy of your xrays on CD right in the clinic. If you see Dr. Hu (or any of the spine surgeons) at the main campus, you can get a copy of your xrays, but you have to go to the 3rd floor of the hospital to get them. Regards, > > I went to see Dr. Hu @ the Mission Bay Clinic. They were saying that the clinic has only opened up around 18 mos. ago. This is why I had never heard of it when I went around 2-1/2 yrs. ago--it didn't exist then! We got there around 8:15, & we went right in, registered, & then waited for my x-rays to be done. My appt was @ 9:30 AM. They called me in from the x-ray suite around 10:00. (they didn't have a room available) By the time I finished seeing Dr. Hu, it was a little after 11:00, & the people were already backing up in the reception area. (there were about 6 people waiting) It's a good thing I was early--no waiting at that time of the morning! > > I tried to take some digital picture of my back x-rays, but my camera didn't cooperate. I need to put some pictures in my x-ray folder on the site that doesn't include my hardware. I will see if my daughter can help me out. My hardware is only missing from slightly below my waist. The pelvic hardware implants ( & bolts)have been removed, but everything else is there. (part of my upper harrington rod is there) The screws are there--it's surprising how long they are! > > I needed to find out about 4 things that I had concerns about. > > (1) was about my " pinched nerve " incidents. I had one incident about a year ago (minor) & the one about 2 mos. ago--that was a major thing. It took me a long time to get over it. I bought myself a mesh back brace (lightweight) to help me through the worst of it. She said a lot of times your nerve roots are exposed after the surgery in my low back area. She gave me Neurontin (Rx)to help the nerve. > (2)my abdomen is misshapen after my original surgery in 2007, & she thinks that is more exaggerated in MY case than others. My anterior surgery caused this misshapen abdomen. > (3) my legs seem to be " uneven " & my shoulders also seen to be uneven. She said my right leg is " shorter " than the left. She knew this all along, but I was never told this. She says my scoliosis curves in by back make one leg " shorter " & the shoulders " uneven " as well. That's a relief to me. But it just goes to show us that our backs are very imperfect! (DUH!) > (4)When I sit a long time--like driving up here about 5 hrs., or sitting a long time in my chair--my tailbone hurts. Guest guest
Carol, It sounds like you had a good appointment. I don't recall the specific details of your case, but I share your tailbone pain! I have had significantly more pain from my very low back/tailbone since my hip surgery in November. I may be way off base, but I think much of it is the result of muscle atrophy in my core that occurred prior to and while recuperating from surgery. If I am correct, I expect it to dissipate as I regain that core strength. So, for what it's worth, I hope you get a break from surgeries and an opportunity to get stronger, and that your tailbone becomes less of a pain. This is my hope for both our sakes! Unfortunately, this car wreck has given me another three weeks without my pool workouts, but I'm not giving up! Since I'm dealing with fresh injuries, I am seeking out a physical therapist/trainer who will work with me in the water and keep me from pushing too hard, which should allow me to stay consistent. I am keenly aware of how my loss of muscle mass has increased my pain frequency and my eyes are set on the goal of regaining it... little bit by little bit! kam
Guest guest
Dr. Hu told me to get the CD yesterday, but there was so many people waiting in line!! I can see if my daughter can use the CD I already have. (it has only 1 view of my spine without the hardware). If you have any suggestions how I can put them on my computer, I would appreciate it! I figured out how to view them, but I don't know how to save them on my computer and then transfer them to the flatback site. Thanks!!! Carol V. > > > > I went to see Dr. Hu @ the Mission Bay Clinic. Guest guest
Thank you for responding Kam! I know the underlying condition is brought about by not exercising. Dr. Hu asked me that yesterday. My husband works a lot & can't go walking with me, & my daughters have their own lives, & don't make it home very often. I hope I can start walking once I get my titanium piece in my head. Unfortunately, that will be around 4-5 months. All I can do now is use my exercise bicycle (1-2 times a week) and walk to my mailbox which is down the block!! Guest guest
Carol, Lucky that you had a nice early appointment. Sounds like the new location is much more convenient for you...but you dont have to see DrHu again for awhile do you? You have been such a trooper with all you have been through. You really are an inspiration to us all. Thanks. Take Care, Cam
Guest guest
Hi Carol, You can get a copy of your xrays in a CD mailed to your home. Fill out a form and mail or fax to them, and you'll get your CD on the mail. I'll email you the details. > > > > > > I went to see Dr. Hu @ the Mission Bay Clinic. Guest guest
Hi Carol... If you have a PacsCube CD, you'll need to View Images, then highlight the set of images (there's probably just one set). Since I have a bunch of images in one set, I clicked on the bottom right-hand corner of an image that I wanted to export, then clicked Export - as Images, from the File menu, named the file, then clicked save. The file is saved as a .jpg, which you can upload to the site. Hope that helps. Regards, > > > > > > I went to see Dr. Hu @ the Mission Bay Clinic. Guest guest
Hi Carol... Perhaps you can find someone in the neighborhood who is looking for someone to walk with. Maybe just put the word out to a few neighbors, who can pass it along if they find someone who might benefit from daily walks. Guest guest
Thank you , I hope my daughter can figure out this from the directions you gave me. The CD is a " Dicom viewer " (from UCSF)to view them, but I hope my daughter can figure out the " export " part of it!! Guest guest
, My daughter was able to put the x-rays on my computer, so everybody can view (the one & only x-ray) of my hardware removal. Thank you ! This saved me a lot of hassle!! So, everybody can view my x-ray of my hardware removal. It would have been nice to have the back straight on, instead of the side view. Oh well! Guest guest
No, I don't have to see her again for awhile. She never discussed me coming back (on Mon.). She knows about my " brain tumor saga " . Every time I have a head/brain surgery I send her ( & others) an e-mail about my surgery. So, I'm sure she doesn't expect me back! I wasn't going to bring this up on this forum, but Dr. Hu said her neighbor had the same brain tumor that I had....only the neighbor had a tumor the size of an ORANGE! Mine was about the size of a WALNUT! Carol V. > > Carol, > > Lucky that you had a nice early appointment.
