Guest guest
Since I need a myleogram to further investigate the cause of my neurological pain, and a CT scan would be done with the myleogram, he didn't have a CT scan done at this time to check whether my fusion is solid. Given the way the root nerve block took hold slowly then dissipated quickly, he only gives me a 50% chance of getting rid of the neurological pain through further surgery. I can do household chores again, although he thought that vacuuming would be stressful because of the bent over position while pushing something heavy. His two recommendations for avoiding hip problems were: always wear gummy insoles and never do dead lifts. He had no concerns about weight limitations other than the above. The comments he made were that the only joint I had left in my lower back was my SI joint so that I ought to be careful not to ruin it. He agreed that I could go to physical therapy, and wrote me a prescription - isometric trunk strengthening, machine weights for limbs, spinning/cycling/treadmill/swimming for aerobic exercise. He also had no concerns with my beginning to bicycle again, not even to specify the type of bike although that may be because I look like the type that only rides 'townie' bikes never speed bikes. He said that he hadn't seen anyone break anything from falling off of a bike, yet. I took a 15 minute bike ride today, of course!
Guest guest
Beth, Glad you managed to get the round trip in on Monday...it was mighty foggy down here on the island and I wondered if LI would be the same. Hurrah for you and your first bike ride! It is a little like being a five year old as you whiz down the street isnt it? I just cant help but smile when I ride...I hope you did too. I am wondering how you left things regarding the next step. Are you going ahead with the myleogram now? And if there is a 50% chance more surgery could help....would DrRand advise trying? Would you? Enjoy your liberation to do housework, but be grateful you have a prescription to pass the vacuum to someone else! Take Care, Cam
