Guest guest
Hi Beth - Thank you so much for your prayers. I am oddly at peace with my "not so good" news. I don't consider it "bad news". Like R has said many times...revision is not an exact science. At this point, a "fine tuning" surgery is only a possibility...not a given. Since I've had a previous failed fusion, the fact that my fusions appear to be solid is GREAT news. OK...enough about me. Sorry I don't remember...do they know what is causing your neurological foot pain? If so...is there anything that can be done about it? If not...why not? I'm one of those people who just LOVE a good puzzle = ) I get tenacious with the process of elimination...like figuring out my "creaking" situation. I feel so thankful & fortunate that my pain levels continue to go down since my revisions. I pray that you get the same reliief...SOON!! Sincerely........................Kathy
Guest guest
Good morning Beth - I understand COMPLETELY about the finances. I am running out of money QUICK!!! I travel 600 miles round trip to SF. I started off flying ($450)...now I have to rent a car. It's the cheapest way...$180 total...including gas. Sorry if I sounded nosey...I get fascinated with nerves. You see, 30 years ago, my Harrington rod surgery caused nerve damage at L3, causing my left foot to be paralyzed. Over the years, & looking at MANY diagrams, I was able to pinpoint EXACTLY where my surgeon said "Oooops". I also, over the years, have determined the full extent of the damage that includes my bladder, uterus & +/- 75% of my left leg. I ALWAYS keep a watchful eye on the latest & greatest technologies. I waited 25 years after breaking my Harrington for technology to catch up to have my spinal fusions & rods. Now I keep a close eye on the stem cell scene & how they are using it with nerves & paralysis. I guess it's just the "Taurus" side of me. I hate to be told "NO"..."NO you can't"..."There is NOthing that can be done for you"...etc. Be tenacious!!! And know that I am rooting for you!!! Good luck with your Mylo.......................Kathy From: beth.baier <beth.baier@...>Subject: [ ] Re: neurological foot pain Date: Thursday, April 21, 2011, 9:33 AM Kathy, Since they couldn't do the myleogram in the lumbar region, Dr. Rand suggested having the dye injected in the neck. In the meantime, a nerve block to S1 deadened the pain for a few months but also deadened a much larger area of my foot, which in turn made it more difficult to walk which in turn, I think, caused a bone spur to grow on the bottom of my big toe. Sometimes I have an achy pain in my ankle or above the ankle or even on the outside of my knee. I still have burning in both feet but I guess I could live with that forever if I didn't have the pain in the toes. From the comments relayed to me by the radiologist, I don't think Dr. Rand is going to address the pain originating at S1. The most I'm hoping for is that he can say the fusion is solid and point me to someone in Manhattan so I don't have to take such a financial hit when his office cancels my appointment - which has happened two times in a row now. --Beth>> Hi Beth - Thank you so much for your prayers.
