Guest guest
Hi Margaret, Glad your move is over and now to just unpack. After living in the same house for 30+ years I wouldn't know where to start to pack and unpack. Thinking of you and Garreth. Charlyne Mom to Zeb 10 DS/OCD ? Guest guest
Oh Holly, So sorry to hear of your move and the mites following. Have you tried puffing the Roach Prufe in your truck? It seems to be the best thing to rid them from the environment. Good Luck and keep us posted. Rose N. > > and brought the mites with me. What a nightmare. I dont have regular internet access here, but we are living with my dad, and still doing battle. Luckily my infestation is extremely light so im hoping not to infect my dad or anyone else. My truck is my problem spot, and keeps reinfecting me. I have tried everything...spraying, dry ice, burning menthol crystals has been the biggest help so far. Guest guest
You have my sympathies. This truly is a nightmare, and I often think nothing short of abandoning all worldly possessions and frequent moves can truly eradicate the things off one's person. Fortunately, it sounds like you're close to being free of the demons. Stay out of that damned truck! Maybe you could rent vehicles until you're clear, or store the truck and buy a used cargo van - just plastic inside and hard to infest (per Trlyblst). I have stayed with friends, etc., and no one has caught it, so with your acquired skills in subduing these things I imagine you'll have no problem keeping them to yourself. What I have is apparently not easily transmitted. I suspect a bird mite infestation on one's person requires repeated exposure to large mite populations over an extended period. ~vscribe > > and brought the mites with me. What a nightmare. Guest guest
Holly, I'm so bummmed to hear you still got em. I was going to suggest when you got to Cali (I think) that you drive to the highest cliff on the ocean, strip naked, put the truck in gear and let it go when you got there and get a clean start. Seems like that is what it takes. Have you tried Cedarcide in the truck? You can buy quart bottles. I also have been using orange guard on the upholstered parts (whole foods or ace hardwares or order online). Mine seems to be coming back under control after I got cocky and let it go a while. Both are pretty safe to use. Hang in there, we know you will get these ones too like you did in the old place. bob > > and brought the mites with me. What a nightmare. Guest guest
Ha! You are so funny! I emptied a whole bottle of orange guard and Rp'd on top of it. Still no go. I paid more attention to the things in the back of the truck than i did to the front of it. Mistake! Our stuff is clear, and the inside is clearing up with menthol crystal burning, but we cant breathe or see when we drive LOL. Im also afraid to put the baby in there, so im going to try the CO2 tank before i go in it again. After that i may try emptying a couple of bottles of Raid...Im desperate. Guest guest
Thanks Vscribe, I wish i could afford to use another vehicle. Im content to stay at home and not feel mites than leave and get them back on me. How are you? You have been hitting it hard for a while. Have you started to feel some relief? have you tried perm? I would recommend a once a week perm treatment. It kills what is on you, then you pick up more from the environment, but it gives some relief. And helps bring the numbers down. Good luck Holly > > > > and brought the mites with me. What a nightmare. I dont have regular internet access here, but we are living with my dad, and still doing battle. Guest guest
Hi Holly I too have a truck that used to reinfest me , I gased it with C02 every 3 days for 9 days & it pretty muched ended their strong hold. I still gas once per week if I fell them. I pick them up at the park the dock , the lake , friends dogs etc.....I had to cover the seat with a 9X12 & #39; plastic drop cloth & then a seat cover from the auto parts store to keep the un-killable eggs from hatching and burrowing for their meal. I boiled the seat cover daily . The gas reaches deep into a cushion , gas will flow where ever water will flow, except easiier. The 20 lb tank is $5.00 to rent & 12.68 to refill at any welding shop , I shop for the best prices. I never use it in the house because the gas build up & causes my kidneys to hurt so bad , I do all the gassing outside away from the house Powder borax & epoms & water work very well to keep them gone. Guest guest
Hi Holly. Remove the carpet from your driver's side, all the way down to the base of the floor, then you can wash it down there. Get some Bifen I/T and some Nylar, which is an insect growth regulator and mix them together with water, as per the instructions on the bottles. you can buy this from doyourownpestcontrol dot com. Spray the seat down, etc. every time you use the truck, place a clean towel on the floor after you have sprayed down there and use a clean thick towel on the seat, after you have sprayed. mel > Yes i agree about it being the best thing for carpet, and scalp, but they are deep in the cushions, ceiling and carpet. Guest guest
Thanks Bill i think this is the best option. I thought once would work, but i will do it like this. I could only find co2 at airgas, and they charge $20 to fill my tank. I will look at welding places. One question... did you still have to cover the seats after all of the gassing? or did it take care of it all together? Thanks so much Holly > >> > > >> > and brought the mites with me. Guest guest
THanks Mel, i usually dont drive, but i may try this mixture with the gassing. Guest guest
hi holly. the co2 doesn't completely get rid of them, but it does a good job. i say leave the seats open to the gas; don't put anything on the seats, as you want the gas to penetrate right through the material. it's expensive, but works. repeat it a couple of times. since i removed all carpeting, things have been better for me. good luck, holly. mel From: Holly <hollyjane11@...>Subject: Re: Movedbird mites Date: Friday, July 3, 2009, 12:03 PM THanks Mel, i usually dont drive, but i may try this mixture with the gassing. Guest guest
Hey Holly, we last sprayed about two weeks ago and the latest combination of chemicals didn't work as well as the prior Tempo regimen. " Exciter " drove the damn things nuts and seemed to incite a breeding frenzy. I recall another poster advising to leave the house a few days after spraying this stuff - I should have followed it. We threw out the upholstered couch which made a huge difference. Still haven't worked up to getting rid of the mattress and bed, though. We have it triple-wrapped in plastic but I suspect they're finding their way through anyway, and no doubt lurking in the wooden posts. My skin's doing much better with Bill's sulfur lotion recipe (1 part sulfur to 8 parts thick lotion) and H202/Borax recipe. This lotion is such a relief from the heavy beeswax balms I'd been slathering myself with. I was a human fly trap! BTW, the lotion I'm using is Nature's Gate Hemp. This stuff is awesome. Nothing really seems to repel them enough for my liking. I don't have health insurance or I'd definitely give perm a go. Does anyone know of a reputable place to order perm online? So relieved that it's helping you, and thank God you're in a clean environment now. ~vscribe > > > > > > and brought the mites with me. What a nightmare. Guest guest
Hi Holly The gas only kills live ones , the eggs hatch by heat & vibration & the proper atmosphere. So I cover the seat & they hatch under the palstic when I drive ,I put borax there also. It is a battle of attrition . 3 gasings in 9 days only wipes out the colony greatly ( but what a great 9 days it is ) I still have to spray the steering wheel with epso because of the eggs thet are imbedded there . Borax hinders the hatchlngs. Heat treating with 3 vidal sasson hair dryers from 3 separate cord on 3 separate circuts might achieve 160 degrees for 4 hours if the car is in the sun , it will not hurt the hair dryers. I put mine in a rubbermaid tub & it dosent melt the tub or the hair dryer, ever . I haven & #39;t tried the heat treating of the car. I need to go buy the 3 hair dryers & cords, good orange ones from home depot. I achieved 120 degrees in my bathroom with 1 hair dryer , trying to sweat the bug out . : ( no luck , had to borax or sulfur creme them off a boil my clothes & soak my house in epsom & borax & & & & & & ... ) Fumigation is just one of the many ways to kill a bug , the more ways I attack it the better. My car is free now, but I pick them up at the park , dock , trees etc so I re-gas the car when ever it gets buggy . Bye , God bless you , Bill Holly wrote: > Thanks Bill i think this is the best option. I thought once would work, but i will do it like this. Guest guest
Dear Holly, Your bright and shiny spirit lifted me up when I needed it, and I'm so sorry to hear of your set-back. We had one too right after you moved when the dog and my husband brought some of the monsters in from the yard and we had to get busy - what helped is that we already had things in place (still have the residual Bifen/Nylar on the baseboards and DeltaDust and DE behind walls) and the usual stuff on hand. We got a few gallons of Cedarcide, fogged, and a few days later I replaced the DE all over, and have been burning menthol crystals, and we sprayed the yard again. The Cedarcide is expensive - and not a permanent answer but sure can give you a jump start in the environment when followed up with other measures. The fogger gets it into everything and it's not poison like some of the stuff we use. Mel is right - carpets need to go, get rid of as much fabric furniture as possible and seal up mattress/boxsprings or replace with air mattress. You know all this, I feel so helpless to try to advise - just know my heart aches for you and as Rita says, you can do this. You're in a fresh environment and will probably have to work on that again - ugh is right! Hang in there - it will get better! All my best, Judy Re: Moved Ha! You are so funny! Guest guest
Holly, something I just thought of - the Azure sulphur soap (don't know if they have a "Fiesta" grocery store where you are) - it's a 10% sulphur bar soap which really helped us at first. May be something your Dad can live with - it's easy, just scrub good and long with a washcloth, and may help to get them under control for him. ....
