Guest guest
"Scoliosis" is always a "side to side" curve. It can be a "C" or an "S". Kyphosis is a "hunchback" curvature. Flatback syndrome is neither; however, it is most often due to the surgical treatment for scoliosis. S. Guest guest
Group, did some reading a research on her this morning, as I've always enjoyed her interviews and her activism, and loved her movies. Her scoliosis caused her considerable pain, and forced her into a wheelchair, when it was deemed no more intervention could be done, or at her request she just didn't want anymore surgery, given her age and osteoporosis. Yes, she had an S curve, but late in life her pain as it's described in articles was from her neck region. Here's an article I found that gives about the best description of her case.www.dameelizabethtaylor.com/faqs.html Debbie Reynold's said this morning on one of the morning shows, that now will be out of pain, and she said she was in a great deal of pain.So rest in peace , our fellow scoliosis journey partner. Guest guest
Well, I just looked at a scene from "Cat on a hot tin roof" with Liz wearing a tight satin blouse and she did not have the noticable right shoulder upper back hump. At all. Maybe she had a mild case? Guest guest
Pamela,Looked again and the only reference to her scoliosis besides frequent hospitalizations was a Major Spinal fusion in 1957, and that she speaks of having scoliosis from birth. Seems her medical records remained private, so no reference I could find to her curves degrees, or where she had fusion surgery done, or with surgeon did it, or how many levels were fused( some info says four to five levels, speculation at best). She had a ton of health issues, more than most, and all the details may have died with her, as people of that time frame tended to not go into details of their maladies. I wish for her and her family, to know how loved she was by her fans, and that they are able to find some peace in this sad time. A life fully lived.Colorado Springs On Thu, Mar 24, 2011 at 5:58 PM, Pamela Hanley <campbetty@...> wrote: Well, I just looked at a scene from " Cat on a hot tin roof " with Liz wearing a tight satin blouse and she did not have the noticable right shoulder upper back hump. Guest guest
I think she was born w/ it, (a slight case) but it has gotten steadily worse after she got older. My daughter has a slight case, nothing very bad to require surgery. Guest guest
From what I've been reading, it wasn't the scoliosis that had her in a wheelchair. It was from being injured when she was younger from falling off a horse. Guest guest
I didn't hear anything about scoliosis in the biography I watched of her on TV. They did mention back problems beginning with a spinal fracture while filming National Velvet, and that in later years she suffered from many, many vertebral compression fractures, which is what ultimately landed her in a wheelchair (they ended up causing chronic pain). I could be wrong, but that's what I remember hearing. Guest guest
I already knew about Yo-Yo Ma and his scoliosis. This is a good list. They mentioned that Madonna's daughter has scoliosis! That's interesting!!
