Guest guest
Nina, Thank you for asking. Your question caused me to go back and search for where I had acquired my information. All I can find now is that it is exteremly high in vitamin E as well as having good amounts of vitamin A. So, I either confussed the alphabet or I can't figure out where I read my info. If I figure it out I'll pass it along. Nina Moliver <ninalynn@...> wrote: So did I!!! Can you tell me where you read that palm oil is high in Vitamin D? Do you have the link? Thank you! Guest guest
His recommendation for sunshine is great, but in Boston there are only a few months per year of quality sunshine, and I have a hard time getting those as I work indoors most of the day. My lunch hours are already committed to yoga, which I'm not giving up. I struggle for 5 minutes here and 5 minutes there of sunshine. Also, there are a lot of issues about cod liver oil and Vit A taken with Vit D - the question is very controversial. However, maybe I will try some CLO and see what its effect is on my vitamin D levels. Thank you ! Guest guest
Nina, I live in the PNW, land of no sun. I am also blonde, blue eyed and glow in the dark white. My doctor suggested tanning beds since I rarely spend time outside on a sunny day, 10 minutes 3-4 times a day. I personally do not want to do that. So I take mega doses of vit D which we have talked about before. For me, the large doses work. Guest guest
Nina, According to Dr. Mercola and Dr. Jordan Rubin (Garden of Life) the Carlson's brand of CLO is the best. This is the brand we use. It has the stricted purity standards and is tested closely/routinely for mercury. I purchase mine through www.iherb.com, as I have not found anyone yet to beat their prices. They offer free shipping for orders over $20.00, and they are fast at processing and shipping out orders. My husband and I drink 2-3 Tbs. a day, when we remember. We add it to our cultured vegetables to disguise the taste. The recommended MAINTENANCE dose is 1 teaspoon daily (400 IU). You may need more than that. --- Nina Moliver <ninalynn@...> wrote: > what brand, and how much? Thank you! - Nina > > Re: Vitamin D > > Nina, > > I live in the PNW, land of no sun. Guest guest
I live in New Orleans. I used to be a Northerner. I just can't handle the bright sun down here. So even though I work outside, I do so at night. I get a bit of sun just before sunset. So I take a tablespoon of cod liver oil daily. Most people say to take a teaspoon full. But most people get a lot more sun than I do. Alobar RE: Re: Vitamin D > Nina, > > Dr. Joe Mercola recomends cod liver oil and sunshine > as the best sources of Vit. Guest guest
It is cod liver oil that has vitaminD . Guest guest
Actually, I like the plain cod liver oil. I *know* if it is starting to go funky! When the oil is good, the flavor is very mild. Not quite pleasant, but almost pleasant. I squish the oil around in my mouth for 2 minutes before swallowing. Some of the A & D is absorbed thru the gums to help with my chronic bad teeth I have from years of sugar abuse. Alobar RE: Re: Vitamin D > It is cod liver oil that has vitaminD . Guest guest
definitely. Insist on getting both vitamin D's tested: Vitamin D-25 Vitamin D-1,25 The first should be 40-50. The second should not be elevated. At my lab the normal range is 15-60. The year that I gained 5% bone in one year, my D-1,25 was around 35 - in other words, perfect. These days my D-1,25 is 66: elevated. This is my big red flag. It means that I am probably losing bone. D-1,25 usually isn't LOW unless you have some kind of renal failure. Otherwise, it is likely to be too HIGH. It goes too high when the body is perceiving an emergency and creating extra in order to maximize what calcium it can get. People on the list have recommended Cod Liver Oil. However, the labels say that for 250 IU's of Vit D in CLO there are 2500 IU's of Vitamin A. This is WAY too high for me, especially since I would want to take 10 times that amount of Vitamin D. The way it is, my blood beta carotene is 10 times normal. I believe I need added Vit A like a hole in the head. Guest guest
Yes, I've been struggling with bone loss off and on for the last 11 years. When my bones do well, it is by dint of a lot of work - exercise, herbs, homeopathy and so forth. Maybe this is at the root of my problem.
