We all need to update ourselves... take a look at this article...D3 or Disease, Disability & Death! This article also provides a break of Vitamin D in various foods and you will note that its just not enough. Also, with the talk of Swine Flu hitting again this fall, its advisable to read point 3 of the best defense against the flu! of this post reproduced hereunder with focus on US:3) THE BEST DEFENSE FOR SWINE or any flu is to strengthen our Immune Systemyear round. And Vitamin D3 apparently does that! Here in the USwhere (2000 IU, 5000 IU, 50,000 IU) over-the-counter capsules areavailable.Dr. Cannell MD states "As I weigh 220 pounds (100 kg), I would take 200,000 IU per day for seven days if I thought I had an infection with a 1918-like influenza virus." That's 1,400,000 IU or about equivalent to two Injections of Arachitol 15mg (600,000IU). And I believe each injection costs a measly Rs.25/- ! Everyone can easily afford it!My 25(OH)D test resulted a dangerously low of 12.2 ng/ml on 27th March of this year. Over the following 8 weeks, I consumed a total 2,260,000 IU over 56 days averaging daily to about 40,000 IU !My subsequent test result (in June) was 239 ng/ml ! Its high when oneconsiders the normal range between 32-100 ng/ml and some may even callthis toxic!! Truth is, I have never felt any better than now!Canada is seriously examining Vitamin D for swine flu protection. Beforelong, the world will wake up to D3.Technically not a "vitamin", Vitamin D is in a class by itself. Its metabolic product, calcitriol, is actually a secosteroid hormonethat targets over 2000 genes in the human body. Current research hasimplicated Vitamin D deficiency as a major factor in the pathology ofat least 17 varieties of cancer as well as heart disease, stroke, hypertension , autoimmune diseases, diabetes, depression, chronic pain, osteoarthritis , osteoporosis, muscle weakness, birth defects, periodontal disease, and more.No wonder, its either Vitamin D3 or Disease, Disability and Death...you choose! You may wish to watch Dr. Cannell's video titled "Take Vitamin D3, Not the Flu Shot" D3is FREELY available from the Sun too! However, research has shown thatmany people from 'sunny' India, Africa, Australia or Middle East areVitamin D deficient. Plus the current normal range is itselfquestionable. Levels should be above 50 ng/ml year-round, in both children and adults, according to Vitamin D Council. Ever wondered why young children and older people get the flu more and why mostly in winter or rainy seasons? Guest guest
As most people do not get mid-day sun exposure while naked or near naked (unless they get to hang-out on a beach 7 days a week), supplementing with D3 in addition to getting some noonday sun might be a good idea. I shall make another post with lots of snippets and referencing URLs on why we need far more than the RDA for vitamin D. Alobar On Thu, Sep 3, 2009 at 3:02 PM, Bag<@...> wrote: > Below is an excerpt from the Weston Price Foundation on when is the best time to take Vitamin D. > > > ===================== > The ultraviolet wavelength that stimulates our bodies to produce vitamin D is UV-B. It is sometimes called the " burning ray " because it is the primary cause of sunburn (erythema). However, UV-B initiates beneficial responses, stimulating the production of vitamin D that the body uses in many important processes. Although UV-B causes sunburn, it also causes special skin cells called melanocytes to produce melanin, which is protective. UV-B also stimulates the production of Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (MSH), an important hormone in weight loss and energy production.8 > The reason it is difficult to get adequate vitamin D from sunlight is that while UV-A is present throughout the day, the amount of UV-B present has to do with the angle of the sun's rays. Thus, UV-B is present only during midday hours at higher latitudes, and only with significant intensity in temperate or tropical latitudes. Only 5 percent of the UV-B light range goes through glass and it does not penetrate clouds, smog or fog. > Sun exposure at higher latitudes before 10 am or after 2 pm will cause burning from UV-A before it will supply adequate vitamin D from UV-B. This finding may surprise you, as it did the researchers. It means that sunning must occur between the hours we have been told to avoid. Only sunning between 10 am and 2 pm during summer months (or winter months in southern latitudes) for 20-120 minutes, depending on skin type and color, will form adequate vitamin D before burning occurs.9 > It takes about 24 hours for UV-B-stimulated vitamin D to show up as maximum levels of vitamin D in the blood. Cholesterol-containing body oils are critical to this absorption process.10 Because the body needs 30-60 minutes to absorb these vitamin-D-containing oils, it is best to delay showering or bathing for one hour after exposure. The skin oils in which vitamin D is produced can also be removed by chlorine in swimming pools. > The current suggested exposure of hands, face and arms for 10-20 minutes, three times a week, provides only 200-400 IU of vitamin D each time or an average of 100-200 IU per day during the summer months. In order to achieve optimal levels of vitamin D, 85 percent of body surface needs exposure to prime midday sun. (About 100-200 IU of vitamin D is produced for each 5 percent of body surface exposed, we want 4,000 iu.) Light skinned people need 10-20 minutes of exposure while dark skinned people need 90-120 minutes.11 > Latitude and altitude determine the intensity of UV light. UV-B is stronger at higher altitudes. Latitudes higher than 30° (both north and south) have insufficient UV-B sunlight two to six months of the year, even at midday.12 Latitudes higher than 40° have insufficient sunlight to achieve optimum levels of D during six to eight months of the year. In much of the US, which is between 30° and 45° latitude, six months or more during each year have insufficient UV-B sunlight to produce optimal D levels. In far northern or southern locations, latitudes 45° and higher, even summer sun is too weak to provide optimum levels of vitamin D.13-15 A simple meter is available to determine UV-B levels where you live. > >

It's working for me and people on my program, so why take more than is needed. As I always say " More is Not Better. " All of the fats and oils work along two pathways in the body, including oil soluable vitamins A, D and E. They are the omega 6 and omega 3 pathway. If you get too much omega 6 it blocks the omega 3 pathway, so that's why you need the amount of omega 3 I recommend to balance out the pathways so they work properly, since you get plenty of omega 6 in the diet. Guest guest
After being in an accident and not seeming to ‘recover as expected’, a dedicated Dr. tested my D levels. They were so low that there wasn’t enough vitamin D for the soft tissue to attach successfully back onto the skeleton. I took quintuple the recommended dosage for 2 ½ years and just now got blood work back showing my level to be in the middle of the suggested range. It has made a great deal of difference in how I function, as has all the excellent counsel on Bee’s protocol. I use the vitamin D emulsion drops. I previously purchased them from the Dr., but found the same brand through Amazon. BTW, my Dr. was involved in a research project that time and again proved that the USDA recommended daily allowance for vitamin D, is woefully inadequate. If you have a Dr. that is intuitive enough to suggest vitamin D, I would perhaps ask her/him to check your levels every now and again just to make sure you’re neither under or over dosed. Warmly, Jen B. My recent blood test has revealed that I am still low on Vit. D. I have been taking 2 tablespoons of Garden of Life CLO daily for the past 2 years. Can someone suggest how I can elevate this level. My MD suggested adding Vit. D drops to bring my levels up? Could it be that I am not absborbing what I am taking? Thanks for your advice. Thanks for your advice. +++Hi Jen, Please read the message I posted last night on the group, Why You Should Not Rely on Blood Tests for Nutrients & Hormones: Message #103945 Also Vitamin D drops are becoming so popular nowadays is made from the lanolin (fat) in sheep wool. The wool is sheared, and lanolin from the sheep wool is chemically altered in the lab to produce vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol, so I wouldn't trust it compared to Vitamin D from fish " liver " oil.
