Guest guest
Hi ! I take Lyrica and I think it has helped me out physically so much. I started at the end of last year, I was having so much pain that I couldn't stand it, I thought it was going to drive me insane. I had a constant pulse or heartbeat going thru my whole body but mostly in my legs...it was even overshadowing my neck pain. I have a herniation / dessication (sp?) / and degenerative disc at L5/S1 and it caused intense sciatic pain and all this crazy nerve pain in my lower body. I feel now like someone turned a volume knob down in all that noise that was happening and it was like my own mini (or not so mini) miracle pill. I take about a dozen different medications daily and I noticed this one's benifits within the first day when they told me that it may take up to a week or so. I give it an A++ Granted the underlying problems still persist so it isn't a cure all pill but I am really happy that I have started taking it, wouldn't want to not take it and go back to where I was with that nerve pain...I have enough problems...so I couldn't tell you how it would be to stop, unless there is a cure for me I hope not to be able to tell you that without an equivalant. Gotta be honest with you, there were side effects, and strange ones with the vision being fuzzy, blurry, double vision, intensed colors at times and it makes me even more forgetful. I'll take that over the pain! It lessened then went away, then they increased my dose and it came back but its gone again now. I wish I knew about this one sooner!! Guest guest
I take the tramadol for break thru pain during the day. I take morphine morning and nite. I also take motrin and aleve for pain. I am trying to get one of those pain blockers in my back so i can start walking again. I hope to be off the pain meds or at least most of them soon. I feel like a walking drug store. the WV Hillbilly LOVE IS IN ALL THINGS AND IN ALL THINGS IS LOVE [ ] Lyrica I have been taking Lyrica for both my fibro and my post TX neuropathy in my legs...I started at 3 per day but it put a LOT of weight on me....( a common side effect) went off but couldn't walk easily nor sleep at night. So am back to the one at bedtime so I can sleep.it does work terrific! I also take Tramadol.... ....that 3 times a day. Joanne
Guest guest
Bear in mind that some, at least, of the nerve blocks can have side effects, very much like a large dose of Prednisone. Therefore, it's good to be prepared, to warn family that you may not be your usual self for a little bit. Best wishes. Guest guest
Harper, I have taken Lyrica, and it made little difference for me except take and extra amount of my money! I used it for about 6 months, and decided that the cost was not worth the lack of benefits for me. The Neurontin has controlled my spinal stenosis fairly well. As long as I continue with my exercises that I learned in Physical Therapy, I am doing OK. All that to say, that I react to many medications in odd ways and for those who have luck with other meds, I say, go for it! If one does not work, keep trying another one! Guest guest
Hi Beth, I tried Lyric a couple months ago but did not work well for me. But as we all know, we are all different with meds. I started at 50mg at bedtime and stayed on it for about 4 or 5 days then I was told to increase it to 100mg a day; 50mg in a.m. and 50mg at night. It helped me sleep but I felt spaced out and zoned out most of the day. I then increased it to 125mg a day and this is when my problems started. I felt dizzy, spacey and could not really think straight. I ended up falling going up the stairs. It was at this point that I said forget because I live in a condo with 3 levels so I have 2 flights of stairs to go up and down all day so I could not be falling up or down the stairs. But everyone is different. I hope it works out well for you. See AOL's top rated recipes and easy ways to stay in shape for winter.

Guest guest
Beth, I hope the Lyrica helps you. I have what my rheumatologist calls multiple drug sensitivity problems. Sometimes I can start a new medicine and it will be okay for about 7 months or so and then all of a sudden, it just stops working or I have some kind of side effect from it. I also tried Cymbalta as I suffer from depression but I took it for about 2 wks and I had to stop because it made me more depressed and sad than I already am. I hate trying new meds as I always have some problem with it. I tried to stay on each new dosage level like 5 days or so to see if was causing me any problems. Hopefully you will have better results than I did. See AOL's top rated recipes and easy ways to stay in shape for winter.
Guest guest
I tried Lexapro also but I had a problem with that also. Good thing my neurologist always gives me samples so I don't have to get the prescription filled until I know it is okay for me to take. I have tried Lexapro, Effexor, Zoloft, Elavil and so many others See AOL's top rated recipes and easy ways to stay in shape for winter. Guest guest
Beth, I can relate to the med thing. I can use a med for a few months as well and then it just stops working. I think our system just develops a tolerance to them . I've been on Gabapentin (Neurontin) for several months for restless legs syndrome. It took a while to start working but when it did it helped a great deal. My legs used to keep me up almost all night sometimes. Now it's back to square one with the rls. The med is not working now either. I am on Temazepam (which I haven't heard anyone list) Gabapentin and just recently Cymbalta. Guess I just need to start something new again. I believe I have tried every sleep med out there. I am going to call a new dr. and see how that works out. Will let you guys know. Be blessed and don't give up. Guest guest
I take 2 Ultrams 3 times a day and 2 Trazadone (at night) and nothing helps. I was suppose to be taking Gabapentin 3 times a day but it left me so loopy and also, I can't afford the $126 a month unless disability gets approved soon! Guest guest
Hi Joanne, It is working wonders for me - I think it's that best thing that's happened for people with fibro in a long time. I didn't like the tramadol because of the nausea. I now take one Lyrica (75 mg) in the morning, one in the afternoon and one at bed. I find I rarely have to take Vicodin anymore - only if I've really overdone it. I did take a Vicodin yesterday, but that's because of the storm we had. Figuring we'd probably lose power, and having an all electric kitchen (UGH), I cooked up a storm (no pun intended), in the morning just in case. We've got a generator and run the frig and microwave off that. My energy level is much higher, my muscles no longer hurt, the stiffness is gone, and I actually WANT to do more things. I had completely lost my appetite, and am now able to eat without being nauseaous. You're right about the restless leg syndrome too - I noticed that the first time I took Lyrica - I no longer have that problem! Lyrica is definitely not for everyone - some people say the side effects weren't worth it for them. The lightheadedness for me is no different than the tramadol or vicodin was, and the only other problem I've had with it is blurry vision, but it's not enough to make me stop taking it. I've only been on it a month and I'm hoping that will go away as my body gets more used to it. Last night was the first night I actually dreamed in years, so that shows I'm definitely getting better and deeper sleep - yeah! It was an extremely strange dream, but I'll take it! Hope you got through the storm okay. We didn't lose power after all, so we enjoyed a really nice roast beef and mashed potatoes lunch followed by pasta with meat sauce and hot Italian sausages for dinner - the morning spent cooking was well worth having to take a Vicodin last night - LOL! Gotta love the slow cooker for making pasta sauce! Take care, Sandy C. > > Sandy and all. I have been on the Lyrica and it has made all the difference in the world. You can go up to 300 mg a day I believe, but you'd have to check that with your doctor. Just a suggestion to check on. I have heard that Lyrica can do liver damage but I am not sure about all the pros & cons. My husband has severe nerve pain due to 2 car accidents and his sister is a CRNP for the Pain Center in Tuscaloosa, AL and this is the medication she has recommended for the nerve endings.
