Guest guest
Good Morning Hanan, When I first started, I felt like you. I just kept putting my problems out on the board, and wonderful people like Joan, Notan, Cindi, Maggie, Sandy .......... I could go on and on ........... jumped in to help me. I did not feel I had anything to add. Since then, I have learned that EVERYONE has something to add. How you are coping, what works for you, what does not work for you, how you deal with any part of this awful disease. Sometimes you put a note that seems logical to you, and it turns out to be just the ticket for someone else. We are really glad you are part of the group. What part of the world are you from? Kathie from Pittsburgh > I just wanted to say thanks to all of you Cindi, Kathie, and Joan for responding so quickly. Yes I think I did not hear many successful stories because those who had it successfuly leave the group except for a few who stay to help others and because they like us achalasians!!!. > Glad to hear that you are doing well Cindi and Kathie and hope every thing goes well for you Joan and thank you for thinking of me which is not strange coming from a nice person like you. > Excuse me because I do not participate a lot although I think of all of you. Guest guest
Hello again Kathie I have been in this board for more than a year now. joining this group was the best thing that happened to me for a long time because we all have the same suffering so we understand each other better than our close family members, because although they sympathize with us they sometimes make comments that do not make much sense. Well I am from Amman Jordan I am 45 years old, I have a loving husband and four bright children eldest is Ehab 18 studying medicine and 17 years Natalia 11 years Tatiana and 7 years Natasha. I had achalasia for the last 16 years and had two dilations and now trying to live with this disease untill I have a good chance to do something else because in Jordan we have good doctors but they do not have experience regarding laproscopy because there aren't many cases here ( the population of Jordan is about 5 millions) and achalasia as you know is a rare disease. I hope I did not bother you with all these details. All the best and love from Hanan zekenoahme <kgasior2@...> wrote: Good Morning Hanan, When I first started, I felt like you. Guest guest
Hello Hanan: I was delighted to learn about you. I am 57 years old, with 3 children, 2 girls and a boy, and 2 grandchildren. See we have something in common BESIDES this disease! 16 years! Wow. I have only been dealing with this about a year, but I did not even understand I had it until January of this year. Those of you who have had it for such a long time, God Bless You! My Achalasia progressed extremely quickly ... almost overnight and I lost about 50 pounds in 14 weeks. How are you dealing with the weight issue? I could not eat ANY solid foods ... absolutely nothing. Those of you who have carried this burden for years .... I can't even imagine! Truly, I am delighted you shared your info with us. If you were to decide to opt for surgery, would you be able to go to another country for help? The more I read about the dilemna others around the word face, the more appreciative I am that I was able to find and be treated by such a terrific surgeon right in my back yard. It is amazing what we take for granted, and what a wake up call this disease is. The help I received from my " cyber friends " can never be repaid. They taught me to LEARN everything I could, BE SURE of my surgeons experience, and ACT as soon as possible. I hope that I can, in turn, help someone else. Hope you continue to find the help and companionship you need on the board. I will look forward to reading your posts. Guest guest
Hanan: We are so glad you have joined the conversation after " lurking " (a term for reading, not posting) for this time. Interesting to hear about how you are managing our common condition in the Middle East. Sounds like you have a lovely family -- you can be proud. Here's hoping you can find a way for a more permanent solution through surgery. Maybe your young son should study the esophagus? Guest guest
Thank you Peggy and Kathie. Peggy the Middle East is a troubled area especially in Iraq and Palestine, but thank God we do not have any troubles in Jordan we have a democratic regime and people from different religions and different origines live together for a long time. Kathie I eat all the solid food except salades and fruit, I mean I can eat pizzaz and hamburgers and the strange thing about it is that they go down easier than liquidy things, but I regurg every night not all the food but some. I guess every one is different. hugs from Hanan Peggy Cordero <pegster@...> wrote: Hanan: We are so glad you have joined the conversation after " lurking " (a term for reading, not posting) for this time. Guest guest
I eat all the solid food except salades and fruit, I mean I can eat pizzaz and hamburgers and the strange thing about it is that they go down easier than liquidy things, but I regurg every night not all the food but some. I guess every one is different. Your symptoms are almost identical to mine -- I can eat things that have mass like meat and then " pressurize " my esophagus with air and water and actually feel my LES flutter open and food pass to my stomach. Much trouble comes when, with so much water in my stomach, the pressure differential is equalized and the technique does not work. Salads are like paper towels blocking a drain, or worse, sticking to the sides and hanging out for hours. Apples, oh no! Peg

Have you tried tai chi or one of those yoga for relaxation videos? > Another question. How do you drink 10 12oz. glasses of water in a day? LOL The question of the ages! In a job like yours, where you can't leave the line and can only pee on scheduled breaks, it's probably impossible to do except on your days off. Just make sure what you do drink is a healthy choice - water instead of soda, and stuff like that. > I've tried but I can only seem to accomplish 8 glasses and then I'm up > all night visiting the bathroom. I'm 52 and going through menopause - I have to stop drinking 2 hours before I leave the house and about 4 hours before bed time. It's darn near impossible for me to get my water allottment in except on days I feel so lousy I know I'm not leaving the house. > Are Healthy Choice frozen dinners okay for the plan? On the Foodmover, *any* food is allowed as long as you don't have any allergies or sensitivities to an ingredient. If you know salt raises your blood pressure or makes your feet swell, read the package labels carefully and try find some with a lower salt content. They're getting harder and harder to find lately, as the past few years the fad has been low carb so manufacturers have added salt (and fats) back in to make up for the taste of the missing starches. If you don't have a salt problem, you have the whole freezer aisle open to you to choose from. At least things are starting to swing back to more balanced meals now. Do the Healthy Choice meals still have the diabetic exchanges listed on them? They did last time I looked at them, but that was ages ago. I work 40 plus hours a week in a warehouse and walk constantly back an forth through the warehouse all day, lifting > between 50 to 100 lbs frequently. ************ Workout in the morning before work? Do you get a lunch break? Take a brisk walk. Do exercises while watching TV at night. Unfortunately physical activity performed everyday doesn't really count as exercise. That becomes just becomes part of your lifestyle. I used to think the same thing why should I need to exercise when i'm walking a million miles a day just working... But to burn the additional calories to drop pounds ya gotta burn more calories than usual which requires additional exercise. Ain't life a trip?? Hahaha!! ******************** > Another question. How do you drink 10 12oz. glasses of water in a day? ************* Buy a 20oz bottle of water. Drink on bottle when you get up in the morning, before you leave the house. refill. Drink another before lunch. refill. Drink another at lunch instead of soda or juice or whatever.. refill. Drink another bfore you go leave work. Drink one at dinnertime instead of soda, juice, or whatever... Drink another during the evening. Wha La!! 120oz. of good ole H2O. Soon your body will get used to this and you won't have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. Wow!! Do I drink THAT much water?? sometimes even more cause I sometimes can down two 20oz bottles with a meal!! Anyway your body gets used to it and soon it will prefer water ova anything else. *************** > > Are Healthy Choice frozen dinners okay for the plan? I was thinking > maybe I could do that for me at supper and make the boys their own > meal. *************************** I eat a lot of Lean Cuisine (they are delicious!!) and SmartOnes, occasionally I eat Healthy Choice too, if they are on sale. I don't know how they fit into the Foodmover plan because i'm not following it, but I found this was the best way for me to control my portions!! Only thing I suggest if you do opt the frozen trail, is to be knowledgeable of how much sodium is in the meal you select. Sodium content in prepared food is way high. I try to stay under 600mg of sodium, which is still a lot. Sodum makes you retain water, which ain't good for the scale numbers, and it also effects cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. Also, make sure you are getting a veggie or two with your meal, if the meal you choose doesn't have a veggie, throw together a lil salad to eat with it. Also realize that you can't go frozen for life... I am now in the process of weaning myself away from frozen dinners. Forcing myself to cook dinners and control my portions, which is hard, cause I'm such a good cook. hahahaha!! But if you have problems with portion control I think this is a good place to start. **************************************** Happy Losing!! Guest guest
, My job isn't nearly as physically stressful as yours but I'm exhausted after work as well and can't bring myself to exercise (plus I'm just too busy with all my kids activities). I find that I have to get up (actually drag myself out of bed) 45 minutes early to get in my exercise. I don't know how you are in the sleep department but exercising in the morning may be your best bet. Guest guest
I, too, have learned that if I want to get any exercise in it has to be the very first thing I do in the mornings -- if not, it just isn't going to get done. There was a time that I thought I was not a morning person -- and if I had my druthers I wouldn't be one now either! But I have got myself trained to wake up at 4:30 AM so that I can exercise. Even on my days off, when I can sleep later -- I find myself unable to sleep much past 5:30 AM. There is an occasional morning when I do skip exercising and sleep all the way until 6:00 AM. I am usually in bed, asleep by 9:00 PM. Part of my exercise routine is to record some of my favorite TV shows (CSI & Law & Order) and walk the next morning while watching the show. It started out with just getting up at 5:30 AM. And found that I just wanted to do more exercising.Cheryl N <life_is_more_than_food@...> wrote: , My job isn't nearly as physically stressful as yours but I'm exhausted after work as well and can't bring myself to exercise (plus I'm just too busy with all my kids activities). Guest guest
, Sounds like your job is very strenous. Concentrate on your diet first and then decide what kind of exercise program works for you. I'm still working on the water thing, just like you, but I've noticed that it doesn't interfere with sleeping if you drink most of the water earlier in the day. Good luck! I'm really sorry about what happened. Guest guest
That's wonderful Lou, I remember you posted on Alldeaf as well. I wish your mum all the best with her surgery. I bet she'll be very relieved to get it over and done with rather than continue to struggle with her existing hearing loss. I am only 3.5 weeks post switch on but am already amazed at what I can hear now and am getting some sounds that I never caught when wearing hearing aids such as the sound of my daughter whispering to me. Guest guest
Traci, Hon, I have scratched holes in myself with the dry skin. But listen to the folks here.
Guest guest
Traci, if you take just a bit of pure glyceril on your finger and very lightly rub it across your eyelid, that will work for your particular ailment. IN your eye, the gel formulated for dry eye is the thing, the eye gel I mentioned works well too. It was suggested by my eye doc for me with my very dry eye problem and I've done BOTH these things. They do work. Once the gel is in the eye, my vision is blurred with it, so I only use it when I'm going to keep my eyes closed for the night. My sis told me about he glycerin - she keeps her feet soft as a baby's with it. lol It works very well for me. In the summer when my feet are sooo dry and calloused, glycerin softens and heals them very quickly. My derma doc also suggested getting Sarna lotion with eucalypsus in it to soothe the skin. I see no contradiction to adding glycerin to that lotion, both together stop the itching. You're in the tough part of treatment now, HANG ON, it gets better and ALL things pass. You WILL get through and bless your strength for having made it. HUGS to you girl, we do know what you're going through. I'm 64 and just entering the second month of the second round of treatment. Keep in touch. a Sharon Love JanetTraci <traci@...> wrote: Thank you with all the suggestions for my itchy, dry eye lids. I'm going to give the glycerin a try. The Aveeno does seem to make me itch MORE sometimes - weird. But then again all the side effects are weird, mostly painful & /or itchy like was mentioned I keep living & going on the word "UNDETECTABLE". Sometimes I just wanna' put my head in a vice grip & turn as tight as possible. (The Neupogen & Procrit shots have super bad side effects.) It takes all the side effects we already get with treatment and triples them. Oh well, I'm 40 years old now & by the time I turn about 50, I plan on being one of the healthiest 50 year old women around Thank you all again. 14 weeks to go & counting them ONE DAY AT A TIME!Take the ordinary things of life, and make them your own. Guest guest
I live in San TX. What doctor are you going to see? I have two children with a possible undiagnosed immune problem. Seems like they lack antibodies to some of their vaccines. Feel free to email directly tcm_marks@... if you would like to talk!! I would love to chat some more. Do you know that someone is trying to sent up a support group for PID? The first meeting is this Tuesday. Take care Theresa -Jacinto <smile_nocode@...> wrote: I just wanted to thank everyone that has responded. I don't much about IGAD and spend every free minute trying to learn more. I wish all of you the best and am so thankful that I'm not 'alone' anymore. My son's pediatrician is wonderful, yet told us right away that her knowledge of IGAD is limited. She answers all the questions I have the best she can and is honest when she's not sure and ask me to " write that one down for the specialist " . As mentioned before my youngest son was diagnosed with Selective IGA, from what my pediatrician says all other levels are normal however his IGA is at <9, whether that means none or 9 we don't know at this point. The appointment with the specialist she referred us to is still 2 weeks away!! So of course with my OCD I've been consumed with sadness, despair and guilt and it's really taken a toll on my health, my marriage and my job which only adds to the depression. What I don't understand is how PID is considered a rare disease when it's estimated that apprx 1 in every 1000 has it? How is that rare??? thanks for listening, Helotes, TX --------------------------------- Ahhh...imagining that irresistible " new car " smell? Check outnew cars at Autos.
