sinus drainage

I've been on Xolair for over a year and do feel that it has helped me

some. However, I just finished a horrific asthma attack with required 3

rounds of steroids. Sinus drainage seemed to be a major factor - when

the drainage stopped, the asthma stopped. Question: What can I take

for this? Would a decongestant help? My allergist seems to think

Claritin might help (it doesn't).....

aww- hope you're feeling better!!

my dr gives me a scrip for entex to help clear the gunk - you can try mucinexD

(or is it DM? i can't remember) to help break it up also. claritin probably

won't be a huge help, i know its not for me.

do you do a sinus rinse when you get gunky like that? the rinse, while not

super pleasant at first, can be a huge help. this one - http://www.neilmed.com/

is pretty popular and you can now get it at most chain pharmacies. (the website

has the pharmacies listed)

good luck! feel better

I can't speak for everyone but I suspect a lot of us are in the same boat. I

have a sinus infection I can't get rid of right now and am having a sinus ct

tomorrow. I get my 5th round of xolair on Tuesday but where I live in Dallas we

have had heat, cold, snow, ice, ice, rain and more rain so no wonder I am

exhausted and sick. It was 32 and pouring buckets yesterday and today 60 and

sunny.

I am at constant war with my sinuses. Xolair has helped considerably

but I still have issues.

Rinsing with a nasal rinse helps a lot - you've got to do it at least

once a day even when you feel well.

I also love ResconMX - it's a combo pill that has a ton of sudafed, a

little bit of antihistamine and an anticholinergic, which helps control

mucus. It comes in a generic - Ralix.

I have the very same problem with drainage. At my last meeting with my

allergist she recommended I start taking Guifenesin or Mucinex (1200mg).

I am currently ending a pulse dose of Prednisone. So far after taking

this larger dose of Mucinex the drainage had not returned; whether or

not is the Prednisons working (although the dose is quite low now 10mg

OD) or the Musinex I am really not quite sure. What ever the issue the

results so far are great. So far do good!!

I also tried Musinex DM but I am not impressed with the results.

Decongestants open up the sinuses but in my case was not very effective

in stopping the drainage; expecially at night. Nighttime was really the

worst.

Check with your DR. See what he has to say about the Mucinex. I never

had much luck with Claritin either.

Let me know what you do. I am interested in your results.

Have a Good Day

I had a ct scan of the sinsuses today. I had to lie face down to do it and this

type of ct shows the draingage. I had them to give me a copy of the results.

I doubt if this applies to most of you with sinus problems and

drainage but I had this chronic absess in the root of a tooth that

had an improper root canal done and it was draining into my sinus

for 20 years before I hit upon a dentist that recognized the problem

and did some oral surgery to correct the problem. Sinus drainage

went away. Sinus headaches went away. Too bad I went to that

original hack dentist that I found in the yellow pages but I was

young and stupid at the time.

Yes. A nd that's one of the reasons I'm tight in the morning. I have

eternal sinus drainage and in morning it has accumulated and I'm also

dehydrated. So it is " all gummed up " . But it passes, with drinking hot

herbal tea. And even if you don't eat for a few days, or eat less than

ideal, it won't kill you.

I have the exact same problem, but not with my regular morning

drainage, only with a cold.
