Addy, when you get sinus infections does the mucus accumulate in your

lungs causing you to cough quite a bit and afterwards develop short

symptoms of shortness of breath and light headiness?

I ask this because I was wondering if some of the medications I am

taking, i.e Singulair might be giving me a respiratory infection and

causing all the mucus to accumulate in my lungs. If this is the case, I

would think there should be some medication my allergist could prescribe

that would correct this problem. I am really tired of taking pulse doses

of Prednisone to provide temporary relief and afterwards having all the

crap come back within a week. Any suggestions anyone would have in

this regard would be benefical to me.

Does anyone get the aches and pains to joints and legs after being off

of Prednisone for a week or so? I do and during this time I can hardly

walk.

Have a Good Day

FYI My BP often goes up when I am in a full-on asthma episode.

Neither my pulmo nor my family doc are too worried about it in terms

of the long-term. They say b/c my lungs aren't pushing the air m y

blood has to do it for me.

FYI 2 - Xolair has improved my allergic sinus issues tremendously. I

am not a candidate for surgery b/c there is nothing they can do that

might help - I have severe allergic sinus disease or something.

While Xolair hasn't solved the problem completely, I get about 3

sinus infections a year as opposed to 8 or 9, and often I can keep

one from coming on by rinsing and taking an anticholinergic in

addition to sudafed.

FYI 3 - I have seen 9 allergists/pulmos in my life, and if I had a

quarter for every doctor's visit I wouldn't need health isnurance, so

I understand your frustration completely. I finally have a competent

pulmo that I like and I still get " I'm sorry I can't do any more for

you - you're already on maximum medical therapy. "

Oh, well,

Take care,

Welcome to my world. I have Oral Allergy Syndrome, and had

a reaction to Tomatos last week. I LOATHE pulse dosing,

but am rather fond of breathing and avoiding an escalating

allergic reaction.

I feel like total hell today, since this is day 5 from my

taper. Started on 40mgs and down to 5mgs today. I have

felt better from being in a car accident. There is not one

muscle that isn't just throbbing.

FWIW....If I'm on a Pred for a month, it takes me a good

two months before I totally feel 100%.

Oh, and the " bloat " . Gotta love that Pred bloat.

BLAH....

Wish I could give you a med suggestion...One friend ordered

me the book " Coping With Prednisone " . Is it any good? I

hope she didn't waste her money.

Nan

i'm with addy on this. most of my asthma issues start in my sinuses...as soon

as i start getting gunky, i know its going to be a rough couple of weeks.

at the first sign of congestion (sinus or lungs) my allergist has me take

entex in the morning and mucinex at night. i only take the entex in the morning

b/c it has a decongestant in it, and she is afraid that will make me hvae

trouble sleeping (HA! i'm an insomniac) if i take it at night. if i run out of

entex or whatever, she wants me to take mucinexD in the mornings and regular

mucinex at night....and drink TONS of water.

by catching the gunk early, i've been able to avoid most of the bigger asthma

issues and have been predFREE for over a year!! that's not to say that i don't

have any issues, but they're able to be controlled without the use of pred.

85% of the time, any lung symptoms I have are caused by mucus and/or

inflammation that started in my sinuses. If I start having mucus

build up in my lungs, my doc wants me to start on mucinex, two at the

first dose with a full glass of water and then one each dose

thereafter. You might want to ask your doc about it. Meds shouldn't

be causing you to have mucus build up.

Coping with pred is an EXCELLENT book. It may not teach you anything new if you

have been doing this for years but it makes you feel normal as other ppl have

gone through the same thing. I highly recommend it.

co-moderator hating the pred since 2001.....

I discussed this mucus problem with my allergist last Friday and she too

recommended Mucinex 1200 mgm dosages am and pm. I started this over the

weekend and the mucus seems to have disappeared. How long? I am

currently on a tapered dose of Prednisione which should end toward the

end of next week. The questions are, will the mucus buildup in my lungs

come back in a week or so after being off Pednisone? Is the clearing up

of the mucus the Prednisone or the Mucinex? Past experiience has shown

the mucus buildup in my lungs has returned in every case after ending

the Prednisone. I tried MusinexDM at night but I don't believe it works

as well as the regular stuff.

I mentioned this to the doctors at the training hospital in Denver last

August. They indicated I was not being left on the pulse dose long

enough. My allergist listened to my report but so far has not seemed to

adjust her recommendations. Oh well....

Fatigue was not a problem for me. It was definately the increase pain

in my joings that was evident.

Have a Good Day
