Guest guest
Wheezy class was a class taught by a medical center in ville for pediatric asthma patients and their families. The children were taught in one room, parents in another. I was sent to a asthma/allergy expert in Ashville,NC as a child. (lived in Tn) He didn't know what to do with me so he sent me to Duke University. (they couldn't figure me out either). No one ever " taught " me or my family about asthma. I managed my asthma from the time I was about 6. I knew all my meds and told my parents when I needed to go to the hospital or needed oxygen. I don't think anyone tried to teach my parents anything, I'm not sure they would have understood anyway. I had never seen a peak flow meter or heard about red/yellow/green zones. My daughter was 8 when she was diagnosed. She had complained of stomaches for months before. We thought she was faking to get out of school/chores. We learned that one of the warning signs of asthma in children is stomach aches! Imagine how my husband and I felt when came out of HER class; put her hands on her hips and said, I TOLD you my stomach hurt!! It was a great class. I used the materials they provided to educate her teachers/school officals for years. It sure gave me alot of answers to my childhood asthma. Just in case you are wondering: " Wheezy " was the dinosaur mascot for the program. becki

Guest guest
I have had the stomach aches with my asthma also, mine is not gerd induced though. my doctors have always said that it is from your stomach muscles helping to push your diaphragm up and down as you get more tired during/after a bad attack. It makes sense to me as it always feels like I've just done about 500 crunches. rebecca Wheezy class was a class taught by a medical center in ville > for pediatric asthma patients and their families.
