Guest guest
who has experience in both clinical and research about the Xolair box warning. She said that anyone who has been taking Xolair successfully without any type of reaction is highly unlikely to experience a severe reaction due to xolair. She also questioned the likelihood of Xolair really being the cause of any of the reported anaphylactic reactions because the patient population is one that is more likely than other populations to experience severe allergic reactions from any number of causes AND because of all the unbound IgE that Xolair patients have in their systems each time they receive their Xolair shots. (The unbound IgE just waiting around for an allergen to give it an excuse to bind to the mast cell before the Xolair has a chance to do its job.) Also, from what Doug and I have been reading, the risk of anaphylactic shock is no greater now than it was before. The risk percentage has remained the same from what they found in the clinical trials - no more no less, and so the FDA has asked Genentech to post it on the label. That said, anyone who has not yet discussed this issue with their own physician should do so, of course.
