Guest guest
I can't really answer the poll since I haven't started xolair yet. In fact, this is about the heart of the problem. I have the xolair med at home - been there 3 weeks. My doc wanted me to self inject at home w/a nurse coming out to show me how and explain things. (I could figure it out myself with instructions - am well educated) Insurance agreed to pay for nurse. However, Genentech and SPOC seemed to flip out over the idea and no nurse has been scheduled. I am FURIOUS. The insurance said they would pay for a nurse so that's not really the problem. I've talked to all kinds of nurses groups and pharmaceuticals and even a semi-sales rep from Genentech and they all freak out and tell me to call my doc and shots are in doc's office. All I'm doing is going in circles This NOT AN INSURANCE PROBLEM!!! My doc's office is not set up to give xolair shots - staff not trained in it. It's $45 copay for one month of Xolair Rx. Then it's $45.00 co-pay for doc's office each time (twice a month). So, in one month I could easily rack up $135 going to a doc's office when I could do it at home with my doc's blessings for only $45. !!!! I am rather seething over this. I also cannot spend 4 to 6 hours twice a month getting shots across town. I keep getting phone calls from some nurse group in IL (I live on the other side of the country) called " Informed Consent " and totally went in circles w/them while at work yesterday. They kept telling me to call my doc and I have - almost every day! They've called before and by the time I get home at night they're closed. I finally said I didn't want to hear from them and I would file a complaint. Which part of " no " don't they understand? Not getting anywhere. Guest guest
My pulmonologist (I think he's being a bit of a father-figure on this issue) will not let me self-inject. He says the reason is because I have a history of anaphlactic reactions that tend to occur very quickly. So I have to continue going to my primary (my pulmo is about 2 hrs. away from my home and he WILL allow my primary to inject Xolair) every 2 weeks, it's oh so much fun - but it's a little game I play with my doctors - my pulmo makes everyone of his other Xolair patients who go to him for the injections wait for at least an hour, and my primary doesn't know of this, and doesn't make me wait (I cheat the system ). As far as I'm concerned, I have 3 epi-pens, and my neb and inhalers with me at all times, so if I were to have some random reaction to Xolair, I would be able to handle it. I already wait before I get my Xolair injections, so I don't really see the point in waiting after them. Just thought I'd share . <3 Meagan (375mg/2 wks. & STUCK on 15mg of pred every other day) > > --- In , " instdesgn1 " <instdesgn1@> wrote: > > > > I can't really answer the poll since I haven't started xolair yet. > > In fact, this is about the heart of the problem. Guest guest
there is a reason for the warning and I think we would all do well to behoove it. what drug ever had a warning which was not warranted? instdesgn1 <instdesgn1@...> wrote: I can't really answer the poll since I haven't started xolair yet. Guest guest
IMHO, you are playing with fire by " cheating the system " , especially since you have already had anaphylactic reactions in the past. Your 3 epipens, neb and inhalers will work only briefly if you ever have a full-blown anaphylactic reaction. If you are not in a doctor's office or short minutes from a hospital, the very temporary effect of the meds you have would not be enough to save your life. Please, please, please just take a good book and sit out the full waiting period. Guest guest
Fran and others, I am so sorry if I gave the impression that I do not care about reactions or anything like that, I do. My primary's office is literally right down the street from my house, and epi-pens DO last the 5 or so min. until I get there (I know this for sure) and at her office my primary has more epi, benadryl, steroids, nebs, O2, etc, and she knows my history unlike an ER doc would in that situation (I've had numerous bad ER experiences at various ER's). She would also be able to call for EMS transport right away, to be there in minutes, if needed. As she says whenever I ask if I should wait, I know what to do in case of a reaction, and if I lived any farther away from her office, I would wait after Xolair. I always stay at home with someone else watching me who can/ will drive if needed, for the rest of the day after my Xolair, so that I am close to her office, just in case. Again, I am sorry if I gave the impression that I'm not careful, in fact I'm quite paranoid about Xolair. On an unrelated topic when I went to my primary's for my Xolair this Monday because apparently the Xolair rep. for my area found out about me and gave my primary something that she's very excited about. Its apparently a machine (I haven't seen it) that you put the Xolair vials in after you add the SWFI to mix them, so that you don't have to keep swirling them. I was wondering if this was a new thing, and if anyone else has it or has heard about it. <3 Meagan > > > > > > > > I can't really answer the poll since I haven't started xolair > yet. > > > > In fact, this is about the heart of the problem. Guest guest
tired---you and i can not emphasize enough the necessity of waiting it out. If the FDA deemed it necessary, believe it, there is risk. tiredofsteroids <sitesee@...> wrote: IMHO, you are playing with fire by " cheating the system " , especially since you have already had anaphylactic reactions in the past.
